the jags, esp the xj8s, depreciate like crazy.......a 2004 can be had for under 40k, perhaps well under 40k......the car gets good reviews in the car mags...dose anyone own one and would anyone consider getting one as an everyday luxury car if coudl be bought for 35k? i know about the reliablity issues with the jags but the 04s are suppose to be better and it comes with a great warrarnty

I have owned a 96 XJ6. The car has been great. A couple of normal problems over the 106Kmiles but been very satisfied and will be taking delivery of a XKR this week. Drop me a PM if you desire more info.

Actually, the reliability issues disappeared early 90's which makes a second hand an unbelievable deal. Drive an XJR first before you make your decision. Personally, I like the lower sleeker design of the '95-'03 models over the new bigger Buick like sized Jag. Depends on which floats your boat more. You can have a pristine low mileage XJR in the '01 to '02 year range with warranty still for what your paying.

There are a couple issues to keep in mind maintenance wise that the dealerships would not tell you about, such as, changing out the tranny and the diff fluid from the "sealed for life" units. These things are regular maintenance items like they are on other cars.

114k miles and only a single problem costing me less than $300 USD. The mid-90's straight sixes are absolutely bulletproof. The early V8's from '98 through '99 had some teething problems and didn't get solid again until mid '00 to '03.

www.jag-lovers.org has all the info you desire in the X300 (factory designation) archives which includes the X308 model (the '98-'03) and info on the X350 ('04) models too. Great list, very knowledgable, no off topic discussions, just Jags.

i agree w/ sunny's comments. i have infact been looking for a comfy car to use as a daily driver and i have been considering the 00-03 xjr. i cannot imagine a better luxo hot rod than the xjr...price dependent. price independent, i cannot imagine a nicer / more bad ass ride than the 00-03 xjr.
it even looks like a jag should look inside and out.

w/ an xjr, tou will get exclusivity too.

    best, pcb
