If I remember his time at Toro Rosso correctly, Rossi didn't exactly set the world alight.
He got the shove for lack of performance, like Speed, Bourdais, Luizi, Buemi, Alguesueri, etc...
He can be compared against drivers who made the grade at TR: Vettel, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Sainz

I am not saying Grosjean is better, but I believe that Rossi wouldn't be an improvement.
You think it would bring sponsors. Well, I don't know

Also, I was led to believe Team Haas was self-financing, and that the lack of sponsors wasn't an issue.
Gene Hass said in an interview that he intended to spend $1B over 10 years to advertise his machine tools business .
He chosed F1 because the series has worldwide coverage.
I thought that was cool. Things are swell when you don't need chasing sponsors, IMO.
Lord Hesketh, or Walter Wolf didn't have sponsor either.
Have things changed for Haas since?

We were talking about two years from now...

Ferrari does not have a history of promotion...in two years if Seb bails, they will replace him with a proven driver who will work well with their well trained number two. LeClerc is damned either way... such is the fate of attending the Ferrari Academy, perhaps.

My point was more that Autosport has lost their touch a little and seem to know no more than anyone else on the subject.

Rossi didn't drive for STR. He was a reserve driver for Caterham and Marussia and had 5 or 6 starts for Marussia.

Rossi is doing very well in Indycar, he'd be a fool to leave there for a team in F1 that's extremely unlikely to start competing for podiums regularly, and almost certainly earn less money.

Kimi is definitely not racing, he's outperforming though as the appointed #2 driver.

Just look at the stats...he didn't even come close to winning a single race last year, in a car capable of winning a few. But he was able to eek ahead of Mercedes' #2 Bottas in the drivers' standings, so from that perspective he's performing to expectations. He's a given and known quantity, Ferrari management know what they're doing.

LeClerc is an unknown and undoubtedly bring disruption to the harmony; he's young and hungry to win so there's no chance he's going to sit idly by and be content with being a #2 driver. As spectators we'd love the rivalry, but as owners? No f'in way.

I would like to leave that up to Rossi himself, assuming he's actually offered the drive. I think he would jump at it, regardless of the $$$.

Kimi was denied two wins last season by Ferrari team strategy favoring Vettel--Monaco and Hungary. Add to these Malaysia where his car crapped-out before the start and Singapore . . .

Kimi needs to leave to protect what is left of his legacy. It is in decline. He has stayed 2 years longer than he should have. After FA destroyed him he should have retired.

4 DNF's vs 1 DNF though (none of them at fault of any driver)

As 375+ says, Monaco + Malaysia 2 easy wins gone, lets not forget Hungary either. Singapore, taken out by Vettel. Whilst that may not have been a win, an easy 2nd place.

More over, Bottas seemingly was allowed to race for wins whereas Kimi has to play #2. Whatever happens, Ferrari will make sure Vettel wins the race. I get why. Ferrari don't have a car strong enough they can actually let #2 win once in a while.

Kimi and Massa are equals. Literally. An objective look at Kimi shows he is far below Vettel, FA, MS, LH etc. Over rated.
The year he faced FA at Ferrari was the time where his over rated status was in plain evidence.

Kimi is a title holder. He is not at all a 'great' F1 champion. His legacy is utter inconsistency at a high level.

His personality is beyond old news. He has a history of being fired by Ferrari and paid off rather than retained. Sad. Objectively he was entertaining...at times. Massa was going to beat him 2 out of 3 years until he was injured, and was losing to Massa at the time. Thats Kimi. Hero worship is sad. His stats and lack of results are the measure of him. They are not at all that 'great'.

This will never happen, but I would love to see Ferrari poach Ricciardo NOW, put him in Kimi's seat, move LeClerc into Grosjean's (apparently the world's only French kamikaze pilot :)) seat, & bring somebody new into Sauber.

Once again when it's go time Kimi screws up his out lap.
Ferrari will never win the constructors title with Kimi as #2
I have always been a Kimi fan but now it's just getting ridiculous.
It's going to be frustrating the remainder of the year at this rate.
