For anyone needing to replace their rear hood lift struts, I recommend getting a pair of Stabilus SG404018 lift struts. They can be found at your local auto parts store for under $17 per strut. I always try to find a better alternative to some OEM parts, and these fit the bill. They will probably last a lot longer than the OEM struts.

I just installed a set of the Stabilus on my car and it's great not having the deck lid resting on my head while I'm trying to do something under there. I got mine on Ebay and paid $39 plus shipping for the pair. I guess I should have checked around first but I impulse bought them when I was looking for other parts.

I replaced mine last year as well. There is a list of corresponding manufacturers and part numbers in the Interchangeable Parts Thread. I'm sure everyone would appreciate it if you added your finds in that thread as well. Thanks, Henry

Don't forget to add this to the parts interchange thread.

And thanks for the heads up.

You did not do that badly even compared to the op's find. His are $34 verses $39 for yours so fairly close.

Yea, but I think I paid 8 or 10 bucks shipping on top of that. I better not impulse buy any big parts or I could really hurt my pocket book.

You'll be glad that asked before tackling the job. Many of us (yes, me too) saw the nuts on the back of the end pins and thought that it would be prudent to remove them. Do yourself a huge favor and don't. Each end of the strut has a metal retaining pin that releases once it's pulled back, therefore freeing up the ball and socket. If you follow these instructions, you can have both struts replaced in less than three minutes. Look at the new ones before you pull out the old ones and you'll see what we're referring to. Plus 2. Nice post OP, I might need to replace my struts as well and I was already looking into alternatives.
