M5 Touring

Wagons get bagged on here in the states, but I think BMW does a tremendous job of making them look good. I would also buy an M5 if I could.

 

the M5 Touring was never going to come to the USA. Europe is big on them, but the USA can't get enough SUVs.

 

It kinda hard to make a wagon look good, but out of the knowledge I have of wagons, this is the best looking, but that's not saying much....

 

For a wagon, thats not bad looking.

 

We need the RS4 wagon, the M5 wagon, and some of the other high performance wagons to come to the US. I personally love wagons, and all the SUV driving women should buy wagons instead... My favorite looking wagon in the US is the Audi A3....

 

A friend imported an M5 Touring into the US while I was with FoDallas. He brought it by and we took a good run in it. Talk about a sleeper. You could nail any number of guys who wanted to try to take you on or just while they were showing off you could show them up.

Handles like crazy, accelerates like the sedan and only draws attention from those who know what it is. Talk about stealth. Wouldn't that be fun???

 

I was just thinking the other day, "hey, wouldn't it be good if they had an M5 wagon?" Of course they had thought of that!

 

Did you guys in the US get the E34 touring? I'd love one, but they are pretty rare and were never imported into the UK officially, so there are none made in RHD. I recently saw an E34 525 touring for sale that had been converted into an M5 - full M5 running gear (engine, gearbox, etc), for an incredibly low price (around £3k IIRC), thinking back, I shoulda bought it...

I wonder if they'll do a saloon or touring of the new M3 - the Audi RS4 has been pretty successful, so I'd have thought there would be a market for them.

Does anyone know if there ever was an M3 touring before - I remember an 3 saloon (I think it was introduced around 1996), but have never seen a Touring version. Talking of fast estates, my favourite has to be the Porsche-engineered Audi RS2.

Agreed. It's a great looking car period.

 

Heck.....I would consider buying an E55 wagon. Works great for my drum equipment and hockey stuff.

However, I certainly would prefer the M5 Touring.

Mercedes does import the E63 (and previously the E55) Wagon, but doesn't include it in their US marketing materials. There are a few floating around, though.

Audi shafted us on the RS6 and the RS4, and though they did bring the S4 over in Avant form, they were (and still are) few and far between.

The US has never received a M-version wagon in any form from BMW. They did offer the 540i in a wagon, but you couldn't get it with the manual transmission! Not sure if they ever made an M3 Touring abroad, but I would imagine they might have.

I think the M5 Touring and the E63 Wagon are both awesome. I have a thing for wagons, though. Of course, either of those are so out of my price range that it doesn't matter if they send them to the states or not!

 

I like it, but the back doesn't look as good as the E39 Tourings. I prefer the E55 wagon to the sedan, too. Some BMW mechanic made a custom E39 M5 Touring from a 5-series wagon and salvaged E39 M5. Looked great.

 

Weird how you guys dislike wagons so much. Around here wagons are very popular. A6, E-class and 5-series wagons are all generally very much liked..

 

The BMW M5 is the best executive sedan on the market IMHO. I have owned an e34 and e39 each of which I drove over 100k miles with no problems. I now own an e60 M5 which I have enjoyed ~16k trouble free miles so far. You get speed, handling, room for five, looks and luxury all in one package. I would not want a wagon myself as I prefer the looks of a sedan and security you get with a trunk rather than the open cargo area of a wagon...
