I was at the Peterson’s Auto Musmum in L.A. today. It was the annual meeting of the Ferrari Club of America. I had never been there before. It is great.

Of course, there were many fine examples of our brand. There was one MB. It was the new McLaren car. After looking at it, I do not think much of it. The exhaust ports are just in front of the doors. This means the heat is blasting out on your legs when you get out. Also, this was an automatic. Wussy!

After going thru the museum, the McLaren looked like it had been designed in the 1930s. It had all of these holes in it with vanes and chrome. UGLY.

    12 cylinders or walk

All of them are automatics. While I'd rather have a manual, the SLR is hardly a wussy car.

why do so many people believe that 12-cylinder is the only way to go? it has poor gas mileage, fairly large engine, and too expensive of a design. with many of the common motors, you can build them to produce just as much power, for a more reasonable cost.

V8, V12 whatever. The SLR is an MBZ with Mac a badge anyway. Gordon Murray really lower his standard when he decide to take on a project of a slushbox car. Very against all his principles of sportcar as written in his book "Driving Ambition"

From all I've heard and seen (videos, Top Gear etc), its an extremely fast car. But they say it lacks the sense of raw speed that the CGT or the Enzo have. They also said it lacked the same "connection" you feel with the road that you have in a Ferrari, and that the breaks, while amazing, feel extremely odd. I think they described them as having little feel as well.

All this doesnt mean the cars any less fast, it still is. But to me it seems like more of a posers car, or a womans car (my mom loves it). Something to be seen in and that will rarely be driven the way a car that expensive and with those performance numbers should be.
