Megayachts

I've just been reading the Power and Motor Yacht website and forums about the world's largest yachts. Found a great slideshow featuring Paul Allen's Octopus - truly a remarkable vessel. Crew of 60, 2 Helicopters, 7 tender boats, a 10 man submarine (painted yellow, of course), remote controlled underwater crawling robot, jetskis, cinema, recording studio, basketball court, swimming pool, several spas, bar...

Octopus('s Garden), yellow submarine... I take it Allen must be a Beatles fan.

One thing I haven't been able to find are photos of the interior. If any of you guys have such photos could you please PM me and I'll give you my Email address.

Has anyone here had an experience with vessels of this kind? I vaguely recall an Fchatter posting photos they took of the Octopus in South America or other similar tropical destination.

I read that Paul Allen prohibits interior photographs.

Living proof of the "If I had a nickle for every time Windows gave me the blue screen of death I'd be rich' saying.

 

I saw one of his yachts’ off the coast of Santa Barbara a few years back. I think he stopped by, flew into town, stayed for a few days, flew back out to the yacht and went on his merry way. It was definitely an impressive site to see off shore, the only similar kind of silhouette on the horizon is when the Navy comes visiting.

I have some experience with very large yachts (not sure what you are asking). they are great, but cost a ton.

 

I saw Abramovich's Le Grand Bleu in Auckland Harbour last month and it is immense. It was taller than the Hilton hotel it was berthed next to and had a 40ft Yacht, powerboat, 2 Jet Skis and a car park on it!

 

That's what I've heard, too. Some megayacht owners are very particular about letting pictures out. Same goes for Carinthia VII, Lady Moura and others.

 

That's a 65-70 foot powerboat on the deck of LGB. ~$1 million tender.

That's Allen and Larry Ellison. Ellison's is the longest, but Allen's is bigger, (displacement). They're both ridiculously big at over 400 feet each. Gates doesn't own a yacht.

 

From what I hear Allen live full time on the Octpus so 200million for a great home that can be moved most anywere in the world I think is Perty good

 

Sure about Gates? Read in a few places he has one.

 

I read Ellison wasnt that happy with Rising Sun , esp after a Saudi was having a bigger boat delievered soon . He apparently has comissioned an even bigger boat ?

Gates has had many yachts attributed to him, but he does not own a megayacht. He might own a smaller boat, though, I don't know about that.

 

Paul Allen's yatch was in Port Everglades in Ft Lauderdale two weeks ago and Larry Ellison's was there last weekend. I flew in last night and Larry Ellison's was anchored just off shore. Both of these yatches looked like small cruise ships, not private boats. Ahhh to be filthy rich....

 

Not Saudi, but some other middle east royalty (maybe Dubai?) is having the yacht Project Platinum finished. It's around 525 feet. Was originally commissioned by the Sultan of Brunei's brother, then sold a couple years ago when the country ran into problems, largely due to the Sultan's family's spending habits.

Anyone have any pictures of Larry Ellison's boat .. Octopus must be the porn king of the internet boating world right along side that turbine powered creation from Wally, but I don't think I've seen Ellison's.
