My 2000 Modena F1 has developed a loud knocking sound coming from the right front suspention. Can anyone tell me if this is a bad shock absorber problem or a bad ball joint, the car has less than 6000 miles and runs great otherwise.
I can hear this knocking sound whenever the tire hits any bumps on the road, no noise from the left side, with the right side lift up, I do not feel any play at the tire. Can it be a bad control arm bushing? A bad shock tower housing?

You will have to get it up and check for any looseness in the suspension. I have replaced both tie rod ends and ball joints. Also check wheel bearings.

I can't see a bearing causing a knocking sound unless it was the result of the wheel slopping +/- 10degrees or something. (and that is something that you would deffinately FEEL)

Early 360's were prone to front suspension knocking problems, even though the cars had covered relatively low mileage.

It invariably turns out to be either tie rod ends or ball joints, but probably expensive none the less.

Could it also maybe the the top shock mounts themselves? just an idea, as that is the sound most cars make when mounts fail.

Whew!! When I read the title I thought you meant the engine!!! I guess in a high strung Ferrari, you would only hear it knock 3 or 4 times then BOOM! Mazda rotory engines are famous for that. :D

My 04 360 had that at low miles. It was a loose antisway bar. No biggie, at least for me, b/c fixed under warranty.
