Some of you were with me when Jim at KTR this weekend suggested a solution to my mouse issue. I thought you might like to hear the results. I have some mice that took up residence in my Honda Civic which is sitting in the driveway because I'm attempting to sell it. I have placed mouse traps in and around it and the mice keep eating the bait (peanut butter) without setting off the traps! After trying three different types of traps, I was getting pretty annoyed. Jim suggested a trick that he has used. You tie some cotton string around the trigger, then put the bait on, mashing it into the string. The little beasties get their teeth stuck in the string and set the trap off. I caught two mice in one hour! (I think that was all of them, but I still have the traps out there just in case). Just good to know....it really works! Birdman
Jonathan, knowing you as the nice guy you are, I have to assume you are using "kind" traps. I have used the age old snap type mousetrap with fantastic results. My procedure: Open a good bottle of wine, or micro-brew, and enjoy with your favorite cheese. Use some of the cheese to bait the trap. My traps are sensitive enough that if you place them with any impact they will trigger. Take the mouse corpse out the next day and feed the loacl predators. The cycle of life continued. Kind traps? No way. Nasty snap ones that leave no doubt the sucker is TOAST. I don't have the heart to finish the mouse off if the trap didn't do it, so I rely on the trap! However, I have to tell you, the little buggers were still getting the bait without setting the traps off! Not any more!
I like to use the traps to bring the little bastards in then I shoot them ,some times it is a long time waiting for them to show there little heads ,,,ah but that is when the wine comes in ,,,,drunken mouse hunting ,,,nothing better DAVID
