To give my honest opinion, I am a big fan of Older BMWs because mainly the looks. Couple years back we were having a discussion about what kind of cars BMW will be making in 2004 and what kind of design and if it will be better than current BMW style or not, and I think that BMW has took a turn for the worst with the design of the cars. Engine specs look good but the cars themselves are ugly. I still got love tho for the Bemmer nation, just too bad about the new designs.

i saw it on speedvision the other night and i agree with the host saying it has some mazda (mp3?) qualities to it. they said that bmw has no plans of releasing it in the US unless it does really well in europe. i really think these luxury automakers are shooting themself in the foot when they release a more afordable automobile that competes with cheaper cars. It hurts their lineage, imo.

    Actually, this car has potential.

BMW has a chance of bringing back the essence of the 2002 and such with this car...tiny amazing to drive rear wheel drive cars.

I worry they will f#ck up though.

The 1 series was on Auto Motor und Sport this week, head to head with the Golf. They said the Golf handled better on the road (the 1 was faster in the slalom) and was 2500 Euro's cheaper.

To bring back the spirit of the 2002, they need to make it simple, like putting manual windows in it. This thing has i-drive. They're still going further down the wrong road...

I have a '72 2002 - and utilitarian interior is defintely a good definition of it. I am not sure that you need manual windows to bring the spriit of the car back - it just needs to be simple, relatively lightweight and very well made.

The unfortunate thing about this car is that it is too heavy and probably too expensive to really recapture that original '02 spirit.
