I have built a custom home with a 12 car garage. It took four years to build the house due to the fact that I did things twice or more because I did not like it. It ended up costing millions more than I had planned. I thought building a 12 car garage was more than enough space. I now own over 20 exotics and am in desperate need of more space. I purchased a 75x150 steel building yesterday from General Steel. I would appreciate any input on decorating ideas. Money is no object, but this time, I want to do it right the first time around. Thank you all for your input.

I am sure I speak for everyone when I tell you bad I feel for you....lol! There are websites and books highlighting some famous collector's garages..no need to reinvent the wheel, check out what they are doing and copy their good ideas! Good luck and be sure to share photos so we can all live through your terrible situation with you..lol!

Uh, I wish I could help but I can't even think of owning that many cars. I have a four car garage that I can't keep up with. 12 car garage? You better call Jay Leno and ask for a referral. Congrats, and please post your collection, house and garage. We'd all like to drool I'm sure.

    Cheers~

We should all have these problems!

From looking at the "Show us your garages" thread and just b/c I love garages in general, there seem to be a couple of basic decisions you need to make.

Are you trying to build a place simply to store your cars or are you looking to create a space where you and your friends can hang out, watch F1 races and have something to eat all the while being around your cars. Do you work on your cars or have a bunch of tools?

If you're just looking to store your cars at that one location... you already have a problem with 20 cars and "only" a 12 car garage, so hopefully you have tall ceilings as you'll need 8 car lifts.

Look in the garages thread and find RuffMD's collection. While not as large as yours, he definitely has some amazing cars and a nice garage.

Good luck and as requested by the other guys... more pix and we'd love to see your garage and house too.

    Frank

If that is Gods garage his collection is limited. My friends garage is highlighted by Isaac in the following thread and at 40,000sq ft its a little closer to GODs garage and the collection is a lot more impressive, with over 100 cars.

Love that garage. Very well designed.

    Gustan,
what about a circular garage with a center revolving platform and a single exit door. You pick which car you want, and the platform brings it around. Could be 2 stories also to hold more cars :)

    Just an idea.

Until 2 years ago, there was the world's biggest sports car collection here in a museum in my town. They had one wall completely painted with a racing scene, like if you stood at the Le Mans track in the 60s and watched the cars go by. Looked incredible with the according real cars in front of that wall painting, maybe you'd like something like that, too - if your garage isn't simply a storage facility.

(Thanks for all those pictures you sent, btw :))

Thanks for posting my cars. I like your work. Can you send me your email address again. I live in Barrington Hills, Illinois, a suburb 30 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. If you are in the area, I would love to hire you to takes photos of all of my autos. I have them scattered throughout my other homes but will be consolidating it here. My number is 847-774-8246. Thank you again.

If you are looking for decorating ideas for your garage, you might pick up a few books on the market that may serve as inspiration. Here are a few that come to mind, which you can all find on Amazon or at your local Borders, Barnes & Noble, B Dalton, etc:

    1. "Garage: Reinventing the Place We Park" by Kira Obolensky

    2. Two books by Phil Berg on the topic: "Ultimate Garages" & "Ultimate Garages II" by Phil Berg

    3. "IdeaWise Garages: Inspiration & Information for Do-It-Yourselfers" by Laura Gross

    4. "Dream Garages" by Kris Palmer

There is also a good thread on the topic right here in FerrariChat that has a lot of outstanding ideas. Here is a link:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4374

Lastly, there is a magazine called American Driver that is dedicating a segment in every issue on great garages, which they call "Garage Mahal". Here is a nice video that American Driver did recetnly on Gene Ponders three wonderful garages to house his 70 automobiles:

    http://www.americandrivermagazine.com/adtv1.htm

Auto Aficionado magazine has also been dedicating space to the topic as well as evidenced by their current Jan/Feb '08 issue.

Lastly, you might search for the topic on YouTube where there are some video's of great garages.

This would be a great place to start.

    Best of luck!

    Chad

I have been building a garage. Have a thread in the Discussion - Non-Model Specific section. Mine is more about fitting out an industrial space in Hong Kong where space is rather restricted. Look forward to seeing what you decide to do with the steel building
