Wow! I've never seen a 288 GTO in the flesh. I didn't realize how low they are compared to a 599.

    Congratulations!

2 GTO, good choice ! Congratulations for yourvery nice toys!
We can see how big is the 599. It is the think when I put my Mercedes SL55 AMG and the 599. The Merco seems small.
Even if we cannot compare, your return on experience on this couple of GTOs could be interesting.

Indeed a stunning pair. The photograph prompted me to look up the key dimensions of the three GTO designated Ferraris. The results are very interesting*.

    250 GTO 288 GTO 599 GTO
    Length (in.) 173 169 185
    Height (in.) 47 44 52
    Width (in) 66 75 77
    Wheelbase (in) 94.5 96.5 108
    Curb Wt. (lb.) 2090 2560 3540

    * Sources may vary slightly in the various numbers.

Whatever the track capabilities of the various examples, it is clear that the 599 GTO is much bigger and heavier than its forbears. It is a behemoth by comparison. But things were simpler in the old days. There were no emissions standards, computers, air conditioners, or crash requirements.

despite the weight penalty, it is still obvious which car we would choose to blast away with tonight?

So in the first 22 years the GTO gained 500 lbs and in the next 26 the GTO gained 1000.

    Getting old sucks.

You would think so but maybe someone who has a 250 GTO doesn't have the urge for one of those cheapo later ones.

I didn't mention it but they are also getting more plentyful. There were only 39 "250 GTOs" made including 6 with the 330 engine. There were 273 288 GTOs made and of course 599 of the latest. Getting to be more like mass production.
