Hello, I have been working on and enjoying my recent 1985 308 QV. I have only put about 80 miles on it so far since purchase. My questions:

I changed the oil the other day and put 10 quarts in it (the manual actually says 10 liters). After driving and let sit for 10-15 minutes I checked the oil and it was way beyond the MAX mark on the dipstick. I took out almost 1.5 quarts to get the level under the max line. Is this normal for other QV's? It seems to take much less than what the manual specifies.

Also, one exhaust tip on the passenger side turns blue after a few drives while the others do not. I would believe that this tip is getting hotter than the others. Is this normal or anything I should look into?

Other than these observations she seems to run beautifully!

    Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

That sounds about right on the oil. It should be checked after running, waiting 15 minutes after shutdown for the most accurate reading (per my QV manual, it varies by model). Mine takes about 8-2/3 quarts to read at the max line when read 15 minutes after shutdown.

For what it's worth, when I got the car it had quite a bit more oil in it (probably the whole 10 liters). It had been run that way with no obvious ill effects by the previous owner. I drove it a little before changing the oil and I did see any issues either (foaming of the oil, smoke, etc.)

Maybe the experts can chime in on how critcal the max oil level actually is.

I've heard that the oil cooler won't drain all the way down so what the vehicle takes the first time vs refill at oil change will vary some. On the tips, I understand it to be common for a bit more flow to come out one set or side of tips than the other. Just the design of the exhaust system.

Hmmm.... oil checking on a 3X8.... READ THE OWNERS MANUAL :)

The procedure they give is what to use. Period.

Been discussed to death, and yes, I was one of the early newbie's with the exact
same question on my 328. But it's now been drilled into my head, and I check it
    exactly per the manual.

Now go for a nice long drive - get some miles on her - she'll thank you :)
