How long before it leaves your blood system? I quit smoking - will be making application for life insurance they draw blood.

I would give it one-two weeks, even though I've heard three-four days.

the byproducts from smoking should be through your system within 7 days or so unless they test your hair (they won't test your hair by the way). I would not lie when the person filling out the application asks you about smoking if you die during the contestibility period the insurance company will look into your medical history. Also, most states now have a section on the death certificate that reports whether the death was influenced by smoking. Dont defraud the insurance company pay the higher premium for a year and get reassesed in a year...and for God's sake give up the smokes for good.

thanks all - nearly 1 year no smokes. had one a couple of weeks ago - then realized I may have screwed up a new policy I was applying for. Rates for smokers are 3 fold. I think I paid $9k last year for my umbrella policy. That smoke may have cost me $6k.

no worries - smokes are gone. - do miss them from time to time - but enjoy the no dependence issues, smell improves and depth of breath. I can smell it on everyone that does smoke and think thank God I'm done w/ that....
