How much do you want to bet that it's now:

    A) Red

    or

    B) A 250 GT SWB or GTO Replica

Shame too, because it is a cool color.

I figured that, being a rare color (possibly original since the car would only be 2 or 3 years old at the time of the photos) and with both the California plate visible on the rear and what I assume is a Swiss plate visible on the front, someone should be able to ID this thing.

Does the truck in the background of the first picture read "KFKF"? That's an old radio station in Bellevue Washington.

The front plates are NOT Swiss. They are Italian, from Genova. These plates were issued in November 1961 and are most probably the original plates for that car. Swiss plates would be black letters on white background, Italian plates back then were white letters on black background.

I'd say it's post January 1965 as the Black California plate on the GTE looks like it has the tan 1964 DMV sticker on the left and red 1965 DMV sticker on the right.

As for the GTE, I'll work on it....

This might be a longshot, but 3137 is a candidate. According to the register it's a Brown/Tan car (the only Series II car I could find with that combination) and delivered new to "Hollman" in 1961. It had lost its engine by the early 1970s (while in California) in favor of a V8. The car remains in Northern California as late as 2003 (still minus an engine) and is "awaiting restoration".

As a side note, I came across the engine for 3137 when it was in 3369. Here's a picture of that car in Gary Roberts' yard. I looked at it in 1994 and it hasn't been seen since. Anyone know where it or the motor is these days?

The sticker on the left should be the month, not a year. The red 1965 sticker on the right indicates that the registration expires on that month in 1965, meaning that the photo could have been taken anytime after January 1, 1964. The photographer believes that he took the photos in 1964 but is not certain.

The staggered registration in California did not start until December 1975. I remember suffering with my mom while wating in line at the DMV with what seemed to be the entire state of California as everyone expired at the same time. The "month" stickers were issued along with a prorated registration fee (partial year aligned with the new "month" renewal) for 1976 to space out the renewal load.

Most people alternated side to side when the new stickers arrived so it wasn't uncommon to see the tags side by side with the prior year.

So, I'll still say the photos were sometime during calendar year 1965 (or December 1964 at the earliest if the owner of the GTE was really on the ball).

Did 0768 ever have the vents near the head lights? I thought only the TR59/60 cars had those. Every photo that I've seen of 0768 doesn't show them (and the car doesn't have them now). It could have been a period mod to reflect the 59/60 style, but the car didn't have them at Sebring 60 or 61 or at Riverside 60. Certainly as this was in Washington it'd make sense that it was Pete Lovely's car, but I've just not seen it in this configuration.

0770 looks like this (as did 0772 and does 0774), but I think it had a 375 engine during this time frame.

    Thoughts??

great pics, Marcel! Just lay a grille across the top of that bonnet opening and you could have a barbeque after the race. . .

There obviously is a thin line between "heavily modified" and "badly damaged"

Here's a pic of 0768TR at Sebring in 1961. The car went to the Seattle area soon after and was there during the time of the photos.

Notice how those vents are also integrated into the fenders like the ones in the first set of photos.
