At first i thought it was a police was pulled over the side of the road because it crashed. So i raced to get a pic of when it happened down here....

And yes, that's an unmarked police car in the bush....

Was that cop car just an unoccupied plant for the long weekend to get people to slow down? Can't imagine you'd be flying by at a 100+ and taking a nice pic for any other reason ;)

Our Tax dollars at work. They park unoccupied cop cars on the roads all over Texas during the holidays. I see them all over the place here in Austin.

Sixth gear in a vette is seriously overdriven. The top speed gear is fifth. This is why the vette can return 30mpg on the highway.

It's the NEW Corvette 6th gear.

He must have taken advice from the Radar Jammer post and got a Raytheon jammer. :D Any other cop would have got wood and do their best Rosco P. Coltrane impression, "yuk, yuk, yuk, yuk, c'mon Flash, we're gonna get ourselves one of them there speeders"

Thats a hellavan idea. My beater 4 cylinder Accord gets 30-32. I feel like I'm getting cheated in that car.

It was a set up..... As Mike noted they do park empty cop cars all over for the holiday weekends. And as Uro noted the RPMs are low but the Vette doesn't have that tall a gears. Anybody know what the real trick was?

Ahh what the heck, I'm just going to go ahead and spill it all.... the Vette has rather amusing button that switches all the gauges between English and Metric. That cop car had been sitting there for a couple weeks with nobody in it, there was too much traffic to go fast and it's easier/safer to take pics at slower speeds. I just set the cruise control at the speed limit and then switched it to metric and took the pic :D

It always shows the speed and RPMs and I usually have it set to show oil pressure too.

Never tried for top speed.... in sixth gear you get 30mpg at 80mph and 17mpg at 120mph. Most of the time fifth is even a bit too tall, fourth is my favorite.... redline = 142 :)

I should have known. The '96 Impala SS had the same feature but, it was all digital.

Me too. I don't know why more cars don't have it. How tough would it be to graft one on? How about on a motorcycle? Helmet-based? :)

    No.
And i dont think that they ever will. Dont ask me why.

ALL highway patrol cars have different upgraded ECU's.
Different suspension and slightly modified intake and exhaust.

And these are stupid fast cars. And the cops know how to drive em...

    [EDIT]
The reason why we have those lights is that they can display a scrolling LED message on the back of the light unit.

It's on the Vette, a few Cadillacs and the newest BMW M5 has it so it just needs to trickle down. From what I understand the projector is only ~$150 but to make it really show up well the windshield needs some kind of special coating. Some Vette guys retrofit them to early C5's and keep the regular windshield, dunno how much it is for a replacement windshield with coating but they sure b1tch about the cost of it. I really miss the HUD on my other car, I tend to casually speed a lot more without it.
