I believe that this car has been up for discussion previously here on the forum. Take a look at this car on ebay. I like the blue exterior, but the all black interior isn't the most appealing without some aluminum bits tossed in. I emailed the seller with a grocery list of questions, and he answered most of them pretty well. This car was bought for resale - don't know if at an auction or private party. There are no books or records, no tool kit, or any knowledge if anything has been fixed like cam variators, frame issues, motor mounts....etc. The seller says that the car appears new on the outside, and that it's impossible to tell that any repairs have ever been done, weather in flourescent light or sun light (I'm skeptical of this). So....here is a 6-speed 360, with no history, no books, no tool kit, and no real knowledge of the damage or how it was repaired - only that the car has a salvage title and looks "nice". I have no problem with a salvage car, if it's fixed right, I want a car to drive - not impress carshow judges - or nit-picky finger pointers. If the car looks great and drives great....I'm okay with that. I do all of my own work, so mechanical repairs aren't that big of a deal for me. I think this car has potential. I would love to see it in person but it's about 1,100 miles away from me. But before I do anything, I thought I would post the car here, and my views, to get experienced opinions from all of you. The price doesn't seem too far out of line. So what do you think? Feel free to throw daggers if you wish......Thanks Everyone.

In my opinion it is too much money for a salvage title. You can probably get a nice no story car for a few thousand more. You won't know how the repair was done on this car, you might end up putting a lot more money into it in the future. I am sure other guys will come in and give you their opinions.

Here is one posted today. It is $70,000 so $7000 and one year newer than that car.

To CSUN213: .....um...I don't mean to belittle your post.....but.....that $70k is where bidding starts only, we have no idea what the true reserve is on that car, it could be up around $140 or $150k.....hard to say. Thank You for responding...

It has minor work done. Get pics of the damage. If it is just the bumper as stated then no worries.

I have been looking around for a 360 to add to the stable, and have talked to the guys that are selling it. They do not have any pictures of the before and after damage to prove that it was fixed correctly. In my mind that car is only worth 65k tops. (and I would not pay that unless I had all the documents and full disclosure of WHY it was salvaged) You can get a coupe at wholesale with no salvage title for 80K. 360 prices are still coming down, and even if you got the car for a reasonable price you won't be able to sell it without taking a bath in two years. Just my 2 cents, Scott

CSCOTT67 is absolutely correct in his summary of the market. The sellers do NOT know the history of the car.

The big question is.....we don't know what has in seller's mind about this car. They bought this car resale, which means that at the time of purchase they figured they were getting a good deal and could make some money.

My view is that they may be "stuck" with that car unless a very particular person comes along who does not car about history or provenance.

I may be just such a person as to take that car off their hands, if they are willing to accept the reality of the words "salvage" and "no history" in regards to their selling price. They have to be realistic....

I will admit...if the car is mechanically sound, to the point where I won't have to do any work in the near future, and the comsetics are up to my fussy standards....I would make a fair offer on this car.

I'd look at the carfax to see why it is a salvage. It could be anything from a theft recovery to a major hit. The fact that it has no records, books, tools, inflator, covers and no red fob can get expensive. You may be able to get the records from a dealer provided it is a US car (the "A" vin doesn't guarantee it). Not knowing what campaigns have been done can be a problem and get expensive. I don't know if I would go 80K for it as no stories 1999's seem to be in the 100K area. If you are comfortable with the reason for the salvage I'd look to get it for 70K and drive it like you stole it.

For the right price, this car would be a good buy if you planned on keeping the car for a long time. The fact that the car is being sold as is with no warranty on the other hand, kind of worries me especially at that price. However, if you do plan on upgrading to say an F430, a California or any other F car in the near future, I would steer clear from that car. Try searching for another 360 priced a little bit higher. You can't go wrong as they'll likely have all maintenance records and issues taken care of. If it's a budget thing and you're trying to find a well priced 360, keep searching because they're out there. Best

Is there a difference between a rebuilt title and a salvage title?
Can a rebuilt or salvage title ever become a clear title? Perhaps
once the repairs are done, can an official from the state inspect
the car and clear the title?
    Thanks,
    Ron

In AZ, you buy a car that has been totaled with a salvage title but cannot be registered as it sits. You need to make sure it is repaired and meets DOT regulations, then a fun time is spent at the MVD where you have to get a level 3 inspection. Once you pass you can then apply for a new title. This title will show the vehicle as rebuilt. Unless shenanigans are involved it should always stay a rebuilt title. Other states may differ in how things are done. One thing that I have learned doing a few bikes is that one should be a little wary if the title is still salvage anf not rebuilt but the seller claims all is well. If all was well get yourself down to the MVD and get it inspected that way the vehicle could get tags and be legally driven on the road. Also make sure the title has the sellers name on the front of the title. Often it is still titled by the insurance company and the person who bought is just signs the back and tries to sell it to you. When you show up to get it titled that wont work so well. Others may have had other experiences but those are my thoughts.

Has anyone seen this car in person....? It would be nice to know how the car appears rather than go by pictures and what the seller is saying.

As for the seller's position - I can't imagine buying that car for resale, without any books, tools, or service history. Also they have no idea how the car was damaged, or who repaired it They also don't know if any recall camgaigns have been done like the cam variators, so we must assume nothing has been updated. This car seems almost unsellable to me. I'd say no more than $60k for it....

    It is a US-new car.

In 2001 it was for sale at Ferrari of Los Gatos(6,800 miles, as new with full service history)

In 2007 it was for sale on EBAY:
Nov-09-07 eBay Item number: 200172358564 Capital One Motors Orangevale, California, rear damaged wrecked rebuildable repairable Miles: 20812 min. US $50,200

    And lastly in May 2008:
May-13-08 Item number: 110252675396 Harwell Motors Denton, Texas, 21,588 miles US $87,900. Salvage Title. It does have a rebuilt title due to very very minor damage in which the rear bumper and driver rear quarter were repaired.

Can you go to FoLG to get the early records?
In the States, can you go to FNA to get records of any work done at FNA dealers?

The seller says the repairs are undetectable by anyone other than an expert. He says that the car was inspected, approved, and a title issued in his name.. He says that in sun light, or flourescent light....the car looks great, with no color variation or texture change from the original paint to the repaired section. He says the car runs and drives great.

    the math is very simple...

clean title with simlilar miles and decent records sell for $100-$105
keep in mind this shade of blue is not the 'most desirable' color for a ferrari.

so a previously salvaged car IF it had records would be worth $65-$75k.
and since no records come with this car id deduct $5000-$7500 assuming it may need a full service and/or clutch.

overall, i think this car is a decent deal at $65-$70k.

you can find decent euro clean titles for about $80k

    Hey guys,

I think the car has been damaged more than anyone really knows. For example look at the rain rails in the engine compartment. No rain rail on the left or drivers side, and a rain rail on the right. Obviously, who ever did the work doesn't work on Ferrari's or they took every short cut they could think of. BTW, this car has been up for sale by this dealer for more than 9 months...maybe longer.

What you are essentially saying is the car is worth 65K? I would rather pay 80K for a euro car that is out of warranty as well with a clean hx and records!! Another poster has stated the car was hit pretty hard and was not repaired correctly. Hartwell denies they know ANYTHING about the rebuild!! ;O) (obviously THEY bought it and had it fixed) Shaaaaady, Scott
