    Why does a paint job seem to de-value these cars? Isn't new paint a good thing? Lord knows a good paint job costs an arm and a leg.

    A well-cared for car that hasn't been in accident should have its original paint (unless it's very old). A repaint can also temporarily hide rust, the fact that car sat outside, fire damage, and a lot of other bad stuff.

    The exception is a nose repaint -- I think almost every Ferrari that has been around 10 or more years gets a nose job because of rock chips.

    So if you do a good job and replace the metal that needs to be, you're better off not telling anyone??
