    Just about to have 246 painted;

    Question: were cars originally left with paint finish inside rear window behind seats?

    I note some cars are painted and some leather? covered...what was original?

    Thanks PK

    I have always believed that the factory painted that part of the car. I have seen a few cars
    over time with vinyl or leather pieces in the corners, but felt that was because the re-painter
    didn't want to take the trouble to spray inside the car.

    I thought only the GTS's were covered with vinyl and the coupes were painted.

    Most cars i have come across are painted. If its bare shell resto then fine, otherwise its a rear screen removal job which is a real pain in the rear!!

    GTs were painted body color. I went from white to blue metalic. My painter didn't want to remove side and rear windows and I could see his point. We compromised by settling on flat black in the corners and it worked fine. He could mask and then get in with a touch-up gun. Of course the trim on my car is black so fit right in. Been happy for about 12 years now and a second repaint.

    Painted.

    I suspect the vinyl was used to avoid having to repaint that area, but I could be full of ....

    I think we've figured it out.
    To back us up, refer to TAV/TAVOLA 113 in the 'Bodywork Spare Parts Catalog' (valid from car No. 02132), N. Fig. 24: "Rivestimento laterale planetto sottolunotto destro (sinistro)." "Vale per GTS." Roughly translated, 'flat lateral covering low rear window right (left).' 'It is for GTS.'

    My Italian-English dictionary gives me the rough translation. If any of our Italian-speaking friends can fine-tune my version, please do so!

    My Euro GT has been repainted...but the interior portion in question is original paint. Lucky for me, it's the same color & looks pretty good after polishing. Removing the harness bolts & protecting the vinyl & rubber components with blue painter's tape make the process a bit easier. If you have the luxury of removing molding N. Fig 9, the job should be easier yet (I don't know if that's feasible; those of you who've been there/done that can tell us if it's worth the extra effort).

    Cheers,
    Coop
