Paint protection

Im taking delivery of my long awaited Gallardo next month and am considering wether to have the clear Armourfend fitted to the front end to stop stone chips as i dont want to be re painting the front every year as i had ton on my 355 and 360, any one had it fitted and if so what panels and is it any good.

 

My 360 has only the front protection as well as the mirrors. This Tuesday I am having the Diablo done with all the possible areas protected. The 360 has a few chips on the hood and since the Diable has only 2.5k miles and the patern is coming over from Europe I'll be well protected. I highly recommend it as it's not really noticeable. I'l post results after Tuesday.

 

I have it on my Diablo SV as well, the front end, mirrors and all other leading edges, it works well and looks just fine!

 

On the Diablo, make sure you put the film in all the areas behind the rear wheels. This area gets the paint chips real bad.

 

I am having all the pieces that are computer cut put on this time as it was real hard for Ziebart to make the connection. They were going to hand cut before they found this pattern in Eurpoe. The front clip has 2 pieces, the wing (around the headlights) both headlights, both turn signals, the front hood, both mirrors, all wheel leading/trailing edges, and the bottom piece on the door that leads into the air intake will be done.

 

Dave,how do I get that kit?I have just picked up my last rock chip!!

Great Link, Do they have the kit for 2001 Diablo available. For everybody info Ziebart quit using the 3M product as it was yellowing on some cars.

 

I do not think they have it for the front bumper, but the SV peices should work on the rest of the car. Cutting the pieces yourself for the front bumper should be very easy.

I would highly recommend using the Llumar film insead of 3M. The optical clarity is far superior. I was able to compare my Llumar-protected 360 side-by-side with a 3M 360 and the difference is striking. Perhaps a little more expensive, and more difficult to work with, but worth it.

Who sells it?

 

No idea. The guy that installed my film recommended it, so he just showed up with it. I imagine a Google search of Llumar would turn up the supplier/manufacturer.

They say the Llumar is much thinner then the 3m. I am going with the 3m because of the added protection of being thicker. The protection is the most important thing to me.

 

One word of caution to those that have used cars with existing film they are removing.

I took off the stock film on my 360 and two areas had rock "chips" where the paint was held in place by the stock film. When the installer removed the film...off came the paint. He did not touch up, leaving me in a spot...take the film off again, and chance MORE paint coming off.

Think this through, and also make sure the paint is smooth as silk. Any spiderweb stuff will be sealed in otherwise.

Having said that, I am so happy I did it. The #1 reason is I can relax and use the car with no worry and stress.


Patterns do vary, and you can get copies of the patterns from the company you deal with. Amorfend (sp?) was what I chose...but on a Lambo it may be different.

 

Actually, according to my installer, who stocks both products and would have gone with whatever I wanted, they are the same thickness. I heard a rock hit my front bumper today, and when I parked there was a visible spot where it hit, but it disappeared when I rubbed it, so it didn't get through the film. According to the literature I received with the Llumar, they offer the same level of protection as the 3M.
