I'm having a bare metal respray performed on a 1977 Bora going from "resell red" to the original Celeste Chiaro. My question is as follows:

How would the car have been painted from the factory. 5 coats of lacquer, 3 coats of epoxy, base coat/clear coat, etc.

Would repainting it in a base coat, clear coat harm the value?

If it were yours how would you repaint it?

    Thanks,

    Ron

If it were me, I would have the original lacquer placed. The car will look right and be right. As for the original method I could not say with any reasonable certainty. It's my understanding that the factory paint jobs were not all that great to begin with
