Just bought plane tickets with a few friends on impulse to Germany for Oktoberfest-- and found out afterwards that my passport expired in 2003-- how long will it take to process a new one or get it updated? Where and how much would it cost to get one in the next couple of weeks?

    THANKS!

You can pay an extra fee and get it expedited very quickly. The renewal form gives you that option.

The expedited turn-around time is two (2) weeks. It costs an additional $60 I believe.
I just renewed mine without requesting the quick delivery and it only took 2-1/2 weeks.
This will get you headed in the right direction: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/renew/renew_833.html

Have fun! Make sure you eat plenty of pork knuckles.....YUMMIE! Simply the best!

While at the Haufbrau House (SP?) last year, eight guys (that were between 65 and 85 years old) kicked our group off our table. They told us that the table was their 'Schumptdick' (SP?). They explained that 'that' table had been in their family for 200 years and they have sitting rights to it at any time they are there. It sounded good to me, so we left the table. Maybe it's just a line they give to people that look like tourist!

There is a large passport office in Los Angeles. It is possible to call ahead and then walk in and get processed same day. It ain't cheap but our company usually picks up the tab because it is work related travel.
I would assume that NYC has a similar office.

Contact your congressperson - you can fedex them the paperwork, they will have an assistant run it to the passport office for you - and you'll have it back with a 3 day total turn around time using fedex coming and going.

Erich is right. There are private services that will give you 24 hour or less turn-around for a fee. Check your local listings....
