    can someone tell me what a piston rod is and how it works. I think it is the rod that connects the piston to the crank shaft, but i'm not sure.

    Piston rod is a 'Grassroots' term for connecting rod. Connects piston to crankshaft. Wrist pin connects piston to connecting rod. Length of connecting rod (way simplified, no flames please) determines an engine's stroke.

    Are you dealing with a translation? I'd also guess "piston rod" = "connecting rod", but I could see how "piston pin" (a.k.a. wrist pin, Gudgeon pin) could also come out "piston rod" if passed around thru enough Italino-English (British)-English (USA) translations.

    Can you use the phrase in a sentence? ;)

    thanks for the info. I was also wondering how much stress is applied to the connecting rod and I was wondering what the maximum temperatue a combustion chamber recieves. Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.

    TEmperatures inside of a combustion chamber can peak above 2200 degrees F for a few milliseconds each combustion cycle.

    As for connecting rod stress there is a lot of variables that have to be factored in to come up with an accurate #

    Rod length
    Rod Design
    Crank Stroke
    Compression Ratio
    Ignition Timing

    are just a few of the variables that affect conn rod stress.
