There is no public info yet, but you can be sure Ferrari already has a good idea of what it will be supposedly still an 8 cyl to be out in late 2008.

Different dealers have different policies. Locally, our dealer has been taking deposits on the next model for a while, but I think they are in the minority in that respect. Have a heart to heart with your local dealer and ask how you can buy a new example of the next model.

Many Ferrari dealers aren't taking any deposits until the customer specs the car out. I'm getting my 430 this year and they told me no deposits until I get the call to spec mine out.

 

I have heard all kinds of rumors about what will follow the 430. Ferrari had quite a bit of development money tied up in the replacement coupe and spider for Maserati. It has been rumored that the 4.3 L engine will go into a rebodied version of these cars which will become the new entry-level V-8 front engine Ferrari. Then, the mid engined car will become a V-10 in its next iteration to compete head-to-head with the Gallardo. I have been told that the V-10 exists, and this just looking for a home.

This, of course, is all just rumor and speculation.

 

Interesting. I'm thinking that they may be getting away from taking deposits as they are more obligated to give a guy a car if they've got his deposit. With no deposit they can play favors easier

 

Ferrari dont need to pack 2 more cylinders to rival and beat what they already have.

 

I don't disagree with you. I was simply stating rumors that I had heard. Of course, Ferrari wants to stay on top, and to do so they must perpetually improve and evolve.

 

There was a rumor the 430 would have a V10. I don't think any Ferraris will have V10's especially since F1 is now 8 bangers. The last thing I would want is copy cat Lambos. Whateer the configuration, the next model will have more power.

I see that point and clearly spoke about it...

They said the real reason was because many customers gave deposits for the 360 and never got to actually buy a 360, then some of those customers became very angry when they got their deposits back and were not the first in line for its replacement the F430. In some cases it kind of got ugly and because of this and some Ferrari dealers don't want for this to repeat all over again. I was told that no Ferrari dealer was taking deposits from anyone until it was time to spec the car out, but many people claim that this is not the case with the dealers they bought from or are buying at their F430s.

 

I can tell you without a doubt our local dealer is taking deposits on next model, I have the cancelled check! They may be a minority, but I don't think they are alone. Not bad to have a million+ in the bank earniing interest!

From a legal standpoint, not taking a deposit means there is no contract, so there is that benefit for the dealer in risk reduction. Locally, I personally know one customer who thought he was going to get a 360 spider, but they ran out. He ended up with a very early 430 spider (but not 1st), which he preferred to get anyway. Overall, though, I think they had his money about 5 years.
