Proper Towing

The car went in for service today, and I noticed that straps were threaded through the wheels to hold the car in place on the flat bed truck.

After seeing the car move around as the truck drove out the driveway, I am now getting the feeling that the wheels will be all scuffed up.

What is the proper way to tie down the car on a flatbed?

 

Give them a towel or thick cloth to avoid a direct binding between the rim and strap, I believe strapping the wheels is the correct method.

 

Samething happened to mine when I got mine trucked away for a holiday, expect the worst

Mind you mine was transported 1800km's round trip, hopefully yours won't be as badly scuffed as mine were

 

That is the correct way. And my wheels also got a little scuffed up where the straps were constantly rubbing against the rims.

 

You can buy soft seat belt protective covers for people who have a problem with chafing around the collar while driving. They close with Velcro and I believe would stay in place better than a towel during transport. You might want to consider that solution.

 

If you can, visit the car asap and take PHOTOS of the rims. Am sure if they damaged them they ARE liable to correct the problem they caused.
