    Thank you...

...unfortunately, after downloading and installing, when i try to open it, i get an error message that says that one or more of the components is damaged; here's what i get when i click the 'more info' button on the error message...

Sadly I can't say I've ever used the program before so I'm of no help, sorry. :(

    but will it still open?

seems to be formats attached to that file which isn't included in the version you have.

It doesn't have one... It's sitting on my desktop with that "won't open" icon; meaning that if i double click it, it won't open because i don't have the proper program...

yes, it has an extension. how large is the file? if it isn't too big, send it my way. while I don't have quark express, I can view it in notepad (or you can) or find a converter somewhere.

I hope I am not restating the obvious, but Quark is a heavy duty design/Layout type program... Kind of like photoshop, with lots of layers, but more geared toward a total publishing package than just images.

Is there no way for you to get another file from whoever sent it to you, and have then save it as a more generic file before they send it??

My wife was going to get me a copy for my birthday, but sadly, the campus store had no Mac copies left.

Dave; they sent another copy of the file in a more user-friendly program, but i was hoping to open the original and get started without having to wait for the backup... Back in a past life, as a graphic designer, i used Quark; it's a great program and i even have a copy of v4.0 stashed in a box in a garage in New Jersey... :)

Thanks for all your help, everyone. The backup file arrived and has since been opened successfully, etcetera, etcetera, yadda, yadda, yadda... :)
