I'm trying to decide on a radar detector, so far from all the internet reviews I've read it seems that Valentine 1 v1.8, and Escort Passport 8500 X50 have the best reviews. The Escort seems to be about $100 cheaper, but I'm wide open to opinions here. - MICHAEL

V1. V1 is the Ferrari; Escort is the Audi. Not bad, that Audi... but not in the same league with the Ferrari. ;)

Most of the positive reviews you'll find on the Escort are conducted by www.radartest.com. The thing they don't tell you is that Escort OWNS radartest.com. Hmmmm.

I have a very slightly used BEL I'll sell you cheap! :)

I also have one I don't need anymore. It's a scrambler/jammer as well as a detector though. Probably illegal in most states. No fancy arrows, but it does a good job of detecting, and if they do hit you, it intercepts and rebroadcasts the signal as either unreadable or obviously low(IE, 5mph). Let me know if you, or anyone reading is interested. Unit is in MINT condition with original paperwork and box.

Well since the subject came up again, what are the opinions on the battery powered Passport.

This appeals to me because I hate the cord, and you can change it from car to car easy, but I understand they're not as good as the powered ones.

I have my V1 hardwired. Friends that have only one V1 and several cars have them hardwired to swap in and out of. It's quite easy to do.

I use my V1 both in the cars and on the motorcycle (using an amplifier and speakers in the helmet). I will not ride the scoot without it.

I have heard you can send the V1 back for upgrades, anybode done that? Whats it cost?

You can look on their website and see what the cost is. You have to know your serial #. The price is determined by your current revision level.

SJ on FList put his old one on Ebay and got near $400 for it!!! This was much cheaper than paying the upgrade, as the old one sold for the same price as a new one. Go figure.
