Hard to diagnose from the page but thought I'd give it a try with all you pros.

I'm getting a rattle which sounds like it is coming from below the engine. To describe it I would say it sounds as if there are spare nuts and bolts lying In a pan beneath the car. It has no correlation with the throttle. I usually hear it in gears one and two while coasting. I do not hear it while idling and not moving. It seems to have no affect on the car's pick up or performance. Usually gets better as car arms up.

    Anyone had this?

Could be the heat shield above the exhaust - they crack & rattle

Another possibility is the cam belt covers loosening & vibrating

If it's a US version it could be the exhaust diaper. The nuts that were welded to the diaper for mounting the SS sheild had broke loose and it rattled on my 82.

Thanks for the reply! Certainly does sound like it could be the exhaust shield! Thank you.

The header shields wear and rattle on the headers. Also the motor mounts sag and those same shields will rattle on the frame. I had that on my GT4 right at 4500 rpm and it was really annoying.

With the car fully warmed up, push the clutch in and let it out s l o w l y.

if the sound changes its likely the drop gears in the trans-axle.

Many cars still have thin aluminum sheets wrapped loosley around the exhaust manifolds. Done to deflect heat away from delecate components such as the alternator regulator, etc.

If you crawl under the car with a troublelight, you will quickly be able to move them ever so slightly, listening for the criinkly noise which has been bothering you. While maintainening a looseness which allows heat flow, a slight altering can get the best of all worlds, controlled circulation heat around the manifolds, and no rattle. It doesn't take much.

When i am driving slow, i hear a rattle toward the right side of the car....behind the passenger area. I thought it could be air inlet but that is not the source. It is not the little door you open to clean the right quarter window. I doubt it is from the wheel since the car drives really well at high speed...smooth....no rattle. The rattle is a lower frequency noise that is probably about once a second. Most prevalent at low speed. Ideas?

I redid my diaper about 2 months ago and snugged things up. Will check to see is something got loose but i doubt it. Does not sound like metal hitting metal.
