    You guys all like Red Line 75W90NS in your transmissions ... right? Just wanted to double-check before ordering.

    Interesting. I have an appointment booked to change my gear oil on my tranny next week. Ferrari service guy is telling me that they use the same weight 75W90 synthetic gear oil made by Shell. I asked him about Redline product and he only said that the Shell product is used in Ferrari racing so it should be good for my car too...suggesting there was probably no difference in performance. Any thoughts on this? Is there any difference?

    Also, what does the "NS" at the end of 75W90NS for redline gear oil? The only thing I could find was 75W90 Redline gear oil without the "NS" designation.

    ...and when another company ponies up more $$$ than Shell to be associated with Ferrari, your mechanic will tell you that *that* one is better.

    I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Shell - just that using Shell's corporate association with Ferrari S.p.A. to justify the use of their products in a ~25-to-30-year-old car is silly....

    Just as Arron said, Shell gets the nod because of the freight car loads of money they pour into the racing dept. If you really believe the Shell (if it even is) oil they were putting in Michaels transmissions for the last few years is the same as that very average product they are putting in new cars on the line I have a great bid orange bridge I want to sell you.

    Recommended for manual transmissions and non-limited-slip transaxles that recommend 90 W oils. Can be used in racing limited-slip units to increase lockup and reduce wheel spin. Street-driven rear-wheel drive cars should use regular Red Line 75W90"

    Many moons ago I owned a 3rd gen Mazda RX-7. It had double synchros on all but first gear if I recall correctly, and the gearbox was a ***** until warm. I put Red Line oil in it and it made a world of difference. No doubt other products (such as Shell) are very good too, but hmmmm, my guess is that the concoction used in Ferrari's F1 cars is VERY different from anything that you and I can buy!!!

    If all else fails, you can always get the Red Line gear oils from jegs.com. They carry both 75W90 and 75W90NS.

    update:
    I ordered 4 quarts of Redline 75W90NS and I am going to bring it with me to the Ferrari dealership. The service manager said that they would put it in my car but would have to figure out how they were going to get it into the tranny because their existing system pumps their Shell synthetic gear oil out of a drum. So I may need to bring a turkey baster...lol

    BTW.......I had great success by switching to Redline gearbox oil in my 348. Butter smooth shifts ever since the oil change to Redline. Shell 75/90 gear oil was used its entire service life. Ok...........but not as good as Redline gearbox oil. I highly recommend it. :):)

    I put Red Line in my 79 308 and it made a world of difference.
    Second gear is great now. I recommend it.

    I use it. 2nd gear cold is not quite like a Honda but MUCH better. More like an Alfa.

    I had actually picked up 5qts. of this stuff the day before this thread was started! It's still out in the garage waiting to go in (perhaps this weekend), but I'm just glad that my local place carries it, and at $9.95 to boot!

    To address an earlier question, the "NS" part is important. You want 75W90NS in a 308 transaxle. Liquid gold. (And priced accordingly!!)

    Thanks for the heads-up on 5 quarts of Redline instead of 4. I'm surprised that the transmission takes this much oil.

    Also, what's with the 4 quarts of one type of Redline blended with one quart of another? I thought everyone was just pouring 75W90NS Redline.

    Any thoughts? Or has this already been discussed?

    That is the same oil. :)
    RL136-4 is the 4 quart bottle and RL136-1 is the 1 quart bottle. Makes 5 quarts of Redline 75W90NS. :)

    I think the reference to RL136-4 (3.78 Litres) and RL136-1 (.946 Litres) simply refers to the different VOLUME than can be ordered. I do not think anybody is suggesting that different brands/types be mixed. I was also somewhat confused first time I saw the RL136-4 and RL136-1 part numbers.
