Hope you all on the coast are getting the heck out.

Local station says that it may still be a Cat 1 when it hits DFW (!)

    Good luck.

I hope everyone there takes this serious.
I'm wondering what it will be like here in Austin.

My family has a couple of bay front homes in Rockport, but they are just vacant rental homes that can easily be replaced.

The traffic to get out is terrible. Talked to a friend this morning that's trying to get out of Houston headed to Kerrville, 4 hrs to go 10 miles.

My business partner thinks his beach house on Boliver peninsula will be sticks by Saturday morning.

This one isnt going to be pretty.

A buddy of mine drove down there last night, south of Houston to help a family member evacuate.

I hope he makes it back out, but things aren't looking very good. 120+ miles of backup and he's making maybe 4 miles/hr headed back north.

Last I heard no, but I haven't watched the local news today.
I think the ACL Fest starts today, so I doubt that they would cancel it until late tomorrow or on Sunday.

EDIT: The ACL fest starts tomorrow. I was thinking today was Friday.

I just watched the local news....The ACL Fest is still on.

I won't be in the middle of a giant park with possible winds of 70+MPH, that's for sure

Forecast for us is T-storms, and wind for Saturday. We're going to be on the west edge of it as our winds will be from the north. Heard yesterday they were taking about 10" of rain possible for Waco. Wind is my biggest concern due to all the large trees on our property especially those near the barn. Got an email last night that the Waco Wild West bike ride is cancelled. They are taking our pre-entries and donating that money to charities - this bike ride normally generates about 1400 riders. Anyone from out of town who made a motel reservation in Waco was asked to cancel asap so that folks trying to seek refuge can have the rooms. Latest (10 am) shows Rita 460 mi se of Galveston with winds of 165 mph, moving wnw at 9 mph and pressure 913 mb.The projected path was just updated and it's staying deeper into east TX.

It's suppose to be another hot one today - best guess is showing 101.

just downgraded to Cat 4 - showing 150 mph winds, 435 mi se of Galveston, 915 mb - still a dangerous storm

Great deed - just got back from feed store getting horse/cattle feed and heard something that made my day. A former student at Hill College living in the HOU area brought his horses, dogs and all the calves he could load into trailers and they are now happily residing in the College's rodeo arena. They left HOU at 4 am yesterday and got to the college in the afternoon - normally about a 4-5 hour +/- drive.

At the Walmart in Hillsboro just a little bit ago, someone pulled a gun on one of a very long line of cars in line for cheap fuel. Told that person to get out of their way. What next???

I-35 N in Hillsboro is barely moving with bumper to bumper traffic. This is about a mile south of the I35 E and I35 W split (to FTW and DAL). Love's truck stop barely had room for any more 18 wheelers, cars, pickups at the pumps and in the parking area.

I45 N from Houston into Corsicana (about 30 e of here) is north bound in all lanes.

I just got off the phone with my sister in Bellaire. (Inside Houston) The city of Houston has gone completely nuts. She & her husband can't get out of the city so she going to wait the storm out with 3 small children (3, 6, & 8 yrs old). They are well stocked with food for one week, I just hope it doesn't flood in their area, they didn't get flood insurance on their new home. All I can do is pray that they make it through this ok.

Yep, it's a mess. An uncle in Katy just told me he tried to head to his office on I-10 at 3AM this morning and traffic was bumper to bumper, stopped dead with people out of their cars and sitting on their hoods. They were going to try for Round Rock, but decided to ride it out instead of the possibility of getting stuck on the freeway.

My parents in I are riding it out. We're in NW Harris Country...Jersey Village. We've boarded up what we could with what we had. But no on else in the neighborhood really has, except a few others.

Went to the front shopping center this evening and TONS of people sitting either waiting out the traffic of 290 or car trouble or who knows, but ya what a bunch of trashy worthless ****s. Litter scattered all over the place. They should be shot. Hell with the type of people who were they just turned NW Houston into the Southside of town. No wonder these people don't get respect or have jobs.

Best of luck to all of you. Let's hope this turns out to be far less severe than anticipated. God bless.

In the aftermath of N.O. people are going into freak mode. Tried to call a friend in Houston but got a " cant be completed at this time " message.
If in Houston or elsewhere away from the shore I'd ride it out.
Here in DFW we need the rain.

Yup. 25% (roughly) of the US gas refining capability is in the target zone, as is many of the oil unloading facilities, plus most Gulf rigs have been shut down. You can figure on yet another runup of pricing as early as tomorrow.

What I don't get is the grocery stores. We're only getting rain here. When I went to the store to buy cereal and shiners for breakfast, all the bottled water and D cells were gone, along with all the saltine crackers, and the oreos.

Dang strange combination for surving a natural disaster.
