If everything works out, I plan on driving my newly purchased 1975 308 GT4, S/N 10960, from San Fransisco to Tulsa starting this weekend. I will be driving down I-5 to Bakersfield and 58, then I-40 the rest of the way.
I may stay with relatives in Tehachapi Saturday night and I plan on making making Albuquerque Sunday night.
This is a pretty sporty schedule but I am tight on time.
Let me know if you live along the way and perhaps we can meet for a short moment.
Hey, waking up a dormant, 38 year old Italian car by driving half way across the continent, what could go wrong?
    Cheers,
    Keith

Sounds like a Glen Campbell song. By the time you get to Albuquerque you'll have enough material to write a new one. Good luck, I look forward to reading the lyrics. Waz.

Driving your Ferrari home after buying it is like a 1st date something you will remember for a long time.

Btw, with a Ferrari I would would drive down Pacific Highway 1, then 41 east, 101 south, than 58 east, instead just I-5, Highway 1 is much more beautiful along the California Pacific coast and there's a chance you will see other Ferrari...

    Have fun.

I've been wanting to drive the full run of the Pacific Coast Highway and Route 66 for years.

Avoid as many interstates as you possibly have time for. America is much prettier and friendlier once you leave the interstate culture and start down the "blue highways." I crossed from Denver to DC and back on blue roads and the GT4 was a treat. On long blasts along the interstate the car can drone a bit. Consider some earplugs to keep your sanity with so many miles packed into such a tight schedule. Do you have a copilot? This sounds like a great adventure!

I'll be in Albuquerque next Sunday (03/31/13) but not this one. If you end up delaying your trip a week let me know. I'll let you drive my 3.5L 308.

That sounds like a great trip. I live about three miles from highway 40 in the foothills outside Denver. Good luck with everything. I wouldn't be surprised if you hit snow in UT and CO.

Very cool. On your way back, if you have more time, stop by in Santa Barbara.

Good luck and drive safe (but not too safe on those wide open highways) :)

Awesome. I have zero regrets about driving my car from Tacoma to Minneapolis last spring -- the first time I had set eyes on the car. Of course, it did not break, so that made it easy to enjoy. Just have a back up plan -- like AAA and a general sense what train depot or airport they could drop you at at various points along the route, and the number of a good national car hauler service who can pick it up whereever it might happen to go wrong. If you are prepared, you won't feel stressed. And you will have a fantastic time!

The curvy hwy 58 and the spectacular blooming wildflowers make for a great route for a Ferrari!

Well, after at 4 minutes of GT4 ownership, our new member Keith was knee-deep in a 20+ FOG drive through the twisty coastal roads of Northern California on a spectacular morning.

I followed Keith on the drive, and as we got into it you could see him getting more and more comfortable with his new GT4. By the end, you could see him hunkering down in the corners, exiting out flat and smooth.

From my perspective the car looked and sounded awesome - you GT4 owners are very lucky. Low, sleek, purposeful...like a mean wedge of green cheese screaming down the road.

After the drive, I met Keith - and guess what? He's a great guy and true Tifosi on an awesome adventure.

Keith - have fun on your trip and welcome to 308 ownership.
