Rustproofing

Question: I have a 1983 GTS QV. I've had it about 2 years and put about 3k miles on it a year. I love the car. It sits under a cover in my climate controlled garage. I understand that rustproofing did not begin in earnest until 1984. How concerned should I be about rust - or even driving in the rain?

The car is never intentionally driven in the rain, but I'd like to take it for weekend trips - and I can't control the weather.

There is no rust anywhere on the car now. The car is in excellent original condition. Original paint. I don't want to lose out on fun times by being too anal.

Thoughts?
