Take it from an old hand Charlie. Any of the machines in the hanger are far cheaper to maintain than than what you are wishing for. ss

    Hey Steve,
    Now Don't that beat all!
Winged Angels (with or without Lyre) are now more expensive, than aircraft!

Sheesh!!! Whatever happened to a "Wing and a Prayer""??
Hmmmm.......Must be all those NJ Taxes....
    ........They've even gone and travelled.... to Oregon now ! ! ! ! ! ! !

    R A T Z - C Z H I T!! !! !!

Speaking of old hands... The last heavy maintenance object I was involved with ended in 1975... after 12 years together.
So I hear what you're saying....and can affirm that, from experience!

Oh....I didnt know of your used to be 'heavy maint'. Have had some of that sort of thing myself. To change the subject....I'm looking for someone near Wildwood, New Jersey to look at a n Elco 80' PT boat that has been converted to give rides. Belongs to a Chuck Schumann there. I have found it on Google Earth so it be. Know anyone around there? Boats on AvChat? Same as Airplanes on FChat I suppose.

We here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest have a collection of vintage flying machines unlike any other. Paul Allen ( of Microsoft fame) has purchased a bunch of stuff from a JN-4 to an FW-190, all flyable. There is a PO2, Zero-Sen, P-47, P-51, P-40, Spitfire VC, P-38, and plenty more. All kept in a spotless hangar out of which selected machines are pulled and flown every weekend in the summer months, weather permitting. There must be 20 airplanes at the Arlington facility, called the Flying Heritage Collection. Soon will be moved to Everett's Paine Field where more of the public can see them.
Also at Paine Field is the Hammer project where a bunch of flyable ME262 jets are being built. And then there is the Boeing B.U.M. ( Big Ugly Mutha )operating out of there bringing in finished assemblies of the 787 from Italy, Japan, and Charleston. And I ain't seen any of it.

Cool pics! Is the ME-262 one of the replicas from Everett WA, or a real one?

The close-ups of the radial look like the Aussie Sea Fury's engine, am I right? Glad I don't have to wrench on THAT thing. What a nightmare!!

I believe that engine on the Sea Fury is a Bristol Centaurus sleeve valve. If my old head serves me right.

Bob b correct. A whole bunch of wigets and wagats that spin around and go bump in the night. Sleve valve....that a simple deal. Ya otta see the fuel control. Its a great machine, but what a nightmare of 'things'.

Thank god they've kept the centaurus. Back in the 90's I bumped into a couple of greying engineers that did their apprenticeships at Bristol on nothing but sleeve valve motors :) We had one in the hangar for a while, getting parts was a problem. Whats the plane on the 4th picture down? Looks like maybe an early jet aircraft?
