If massa broke his ankle say half an hour before warm up , ie before qualifying, and shumacher was on the pit wall, if they threw a set of overalls at him, how well would be do if he actually raced? might he get a bit tired towards the end of the race? he was always amazingly fit, would be good to see him back.

That's a good question. Obviously he's not in peak F1 condition, but how much racing and/or testing has he been doing lately? A lot of variables, starting with the track. He's raced most of them, but not all. How well does he know the current chassis? Really, Badoer would probably do better than Michael. The question is, how would Schumi stack up against the field? Mid-pack.

 

Not so well I imagine.

 

Well don't forget Gene is also on the Test Team. Although I think Michael can still come back and smoke most of the field.

 

A half fit schumi is still fitter then kimi is/has been at any point during this season ! If it happened in the next 3 races, and he got to do Friday practice, he would win the race, the F2008 is the class of the field in the dry, and would probably be the class of the field in the wet with schumi at the wheel.....

But, i have a feeling this could never happen, i think the 3rd driver is nominated before the race weekend! Maybe someone can confirm that ??


Sorry i had to Edit : I forgot, Ferrari need 1 -2 's for the rest of the season to be sure of the titles, Schumi would come 2nd, he would play wing man to Massa !

 

+1 in 3-5 years I don't think this would still be the case but I think he could still get the job done now.

 

He may be one of the best ever, but he is not God.

With the CC title at stake, even if he still has what it takes, you will still have to give him at least a week to prepare and at least one full testing session to be fully familiarize with everything in order to be competitive. Let's not forget that he has not raced a F1 car, or any real race car for almost 2 years now, testing is one thing, to make a F1 car dance at its limit is another.

 

Badoer would fill in. We have to get over this Schumacher obsession.......he is not coming back to F1 as a driver, not ever.

Does Schumacher even hold a super license at this point? He does if he wants to participate in official test days, but I can't remember whether he has done that this year (I know he tested for Ferrari, but that might have been in private).

 

I think he lost his "super" license when he got caught speeding in that van in Austria.

 

I think that between the FIA, Bernie and Ferrari, MS would get his Super Licence when ever he asked for it. In fact they probably already have it in the office draw because F1 is so corrupt

These two things are no longer coupled. You can loose your driver's license and still keep your super license.

Again, that means nothing if it was a private test day as Ferrari has them in Fiorano. It is only meaningful if he participated in an official test day (e.g. Jerez).

But realistically he would never come back to F1 even if this situation would happen.

Indeed. The FIA would no doubt issue you a Super Licence, too, if you have reasonable requisite experience and the willingness to write the cheque.

Don't kid yourselves, a Super Licence is not mysterious by any means. If you vaguely meet their criteria and pay their fee, they'll most certainly issue you one. That said, I suppose seven world championships might meet the criteria, but I think the truth of the matter is that we're not going to see MS in any F1 race ever.

 

Don't take the super license deal to easy: Remember Kimi's first year in F1? He was on probation the first few races because of alleged lack in race cars.

Having said that, being official test driver of a F1 team does take care of things. Remember that old guy driving for Jordan? More of a pleasure drive than a test driver.
