hey all, been lurkin for a while and havent posted much as i am new to learning about ferraris but this post has my intrigued. Do most of you truly not like the scissor doors because of the style itself, or the fact that they have now been associated with "ricers"? It seems like most think they are okay for a lambo, but nothing else. Would your mind change regarding the doors if ricers didnt have them in excessive quantity, and they were built and distributed by novitec for F cars? It just seems like the ricers ruin the style of the door and not the door ruining the ferrari. i blame the ricers for making them cheap looking, but i would still throw a pair on and F430. I guess i better go buy a gold chain!!
And if you roll the car over on the roof, exactly how do you get out if the window opening is crushed down or blocked?
Haha, lmao at the de-ricer spray bottle. Thats one of the funniest pictures I have ever seen. I agree with many here, as the scissor doors are not for a Ferrari. Has anyone else seen the Novitec door kit for the 430? I saw pictures, and I wish I hadn't. I felt so bad for the car. Edit: Heres the link to the pics. http://seriouswheels.com/cars/top-2007-Hamann-Ferrari-F430-Black-Miracle.htm
That's a fair observation. In my opinion, yes... it's because it's been done to death. Ironic really considering that if ONLY, say, the Enzo had it's "butterfly" door then others would probably want to do this. It's just an exclusivitiy thing and little more. And for those of you who really think that it's so lame, how do you feel about the Enzo? I mean, come on.... it's so close to the same thing. I fail to see how a "butterfly" door is so difference than the lambo style. Gull-wing at least is int a outward direction, but still sooooo similar. For myself, I wouldn't do this because I don't care for the look of it on ANY car.... ricer, million dollar Enzo, SLR, lambo, Delorian (sp?), etc etc etc.
...and, as others have said, digging up old thread for not a lot of reason is as lame as the doors. Sorry.
Scissor doors on a 308, 348, 355, 360, or 430 just don't LOOK right. . . and probably wouldn't WORK right, either. I couldn't care less what the ricers are doing; it just doesn't look right on most Ferraris. (Even the NSX had conventional doors.) Now, on the Enzo, it does work (and conventional doors probably wouldn't.) Remember the underpowered and very short-lived DeLorean? The car had all kinds of problems because of the doors. . . and there really wasn't any good reason not to have them open conventionally. So in the end, I think it's a question of design. If it comes that way from the factory, there's probably a good reason for it (except in the case of the DeLorean.) The Mercedes gullwing wouldn't have worked any other way.
I actualy like them on the 430 pic above BUT I just couldn't do it to a ferrari! They are just not for modifying...ever!!!
