This is so awesome...can't wait to see the car progress toward completion!

Let us know when you have some Scuderia bits available. Also, I just graduated with a mechanical engineering degree in December and I'm in Suffolk County, so if there's anything I can do to help, please let me know!!!

Can we help it if FerrariChat has such a great user base creating amazing content? If there was a way for us to just syndicate an entire thread of comments we'd do that -- but re-hashing some of what y'all said is the best way we've yet figured out to give the story its due. And we give F-Chat a link at the bottom so folks know where we found the story.

    Thanks,

    Ray Wert

    Hey

I also think Ray's site is "News" verses "Chat". A lot of good and funny stuff.

Beyond the current restricted availability, did you give any thought to using the 458 as a platform instead of the 430 Scuderia?

No. The F430 GT2 is a great race car and has won in class at Le Mans. The 458 GT2 hopefully will be as well but it will be a while before it's fully developed and I don't think it will even be racing for a while.

Our race version will use a race engine/ gearbox/ ecu. After the race, street engine/gearbox and ECU's will be put back in and FIA roll cage encased as it is in P 4/5. In race form it will be basically a GT2. Keep in mind that the Nurburgring is a street course so ride height won't be ground scraping even with race suspension. Street version will have nose lifter for speed bumps. All headlights etc will be DOT and we'll keep AC etc. operative.

The class we'll run in is basically GT2 Experimental, Experimental as P 4/5 isn't a homolagated car.

That all makes sense, thanks for the details. Any thought as to how the finished weight will compare with the original Scuderia once the car has been converted back to street use but with a (lighter?) body?

My guess is that she'll be a lot lighter.

    2600 lbs?

Jim, will you get to keep and drive her once she's had her road legal status restored?

Either way, will she make any appearances at Ferrari runs and shows after her racing days are done?

And finally, should you fancy tracking her again, is the conversion between race mode and street mode a simple one?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Yes I will own her and she won't be for sale.

She will make many apperances for many years.

It's possible other venues will invite her to race and who knows where that will lead?

For track days she'll be Super in her Street mode and should Le Mans, Daytona, Sebring or Spa call, conversion is no big deal...

    :)

(Her Race engine will likely need a rebuild after the 24 of Nurburgring)

Great to see this going ahead.
You chose a 430 Scuderia so you can drive it on the road after it has raced? Else a F430 racecar seems a more obvious choice.

A couple of weeks ago I saw the 599XX doing it's thing during a private track day at the ring. So next year I'll see you testing P4/5 Competizione during a track day? And you won't chase me away in the pits so I can have a good look like those Italians. :)

A friend of mine is a professional motorsport photographer and lives at the Nurburgring, one of his customers is Manthey. If you need his services please let me know.

How come you didn't go for an Enzo based car?

Wouldn't have been competitive at the Ring as fuel mileage is very important there.

Sounds great on all counts!! :D

I seem to recall you once said something about carbon fiber tubs not being permitted and was also a critical factor in donor car selection...? Or did I just imagine that?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Yes they are not allowed at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring.

Originally we considered building P 4/5 C on a 333sp platform but the Ring didn't like CF Tubs and the V12 was too thirsty.

They are beginning to be allowed in GT 1 likely to allow Mc Laren to race.

The Enzo tub's WB is also too short for Endurance racing which is why the MC 12's is longer but the MC 12 isn't a Ferrari. Interestingly the Ford GT's (V8/non Carbon Tub) are beating the MC 12's in GT 1. It will be interesting to see what happens at Le Mans.

    .

Jim, this really is something awesome. Congrats are in order for your whole camp.

I have only a couple questions at this point, for instance will it be a V8 engine used as in the Scuderia or will your team find some way to shoe horn a V12 in order to stay consistant with her sister car?

My second question is if you could share with us your partners in the mechanical and competition aspects?

Keep in mind that today Endurance Racing is highly regulated to keep the cars at the same level to make racing more interesting for the fans.

Basically they take your car and run a lap with their test driver. They then set your weight and air restriction which limits your HP to about 500. Because of restrictors there is no advantage to a V 12 in our class and as Fuel efficiency is VERY important at the Ring it would be slower over the 24 as you'd have to refuel more often.

Our partners are a Major Team and Prototype builder who we'll announce soon. They have a lot of experience at the Ring.

Always a pleasure Jim. Is Brad doing the filming? Again - consistency. :)
