Question. I guess I wasn't really paying attention when I first purchased my car, but I've noticed that some 348s have the prancing horse emblem on the front side panel (just in front of the side mirrors) while others don't.

Mine is a '91 348 TS and doesn't have them. Yet, I've gone to cars.com and checked out the ones for sale. . .some have it and some don't. Anyone know if these are after market additions, if mine were somehow removed in the past fifteen years by the previous owner . . . or what?

    thanks

    The email reads:
They are aftermarket. People refer to them as Scuderia shields. It is a
factory option on the newer models and an aftermarket on most of the older
cars. You can order some if you like them from Paulie_B. He posts in the
Florida section. Another seller has them listed in Ferrariads.com under
parts. They are about $250-280 a set and you can install them with double
stick tape or epoxy. If you aren't sure you will like them you can get
magnetic ones off Ebay for around $20. I bought some nice fired cloisonne
shields from Paulie_B and have not installed them because I want to put some
magnetic strips on the back to hold them to the car and still be able to
remove them when I detail the car. Glad you bought a 348. Where are you
    located?
    :)

After market....some folks like the look of them some do not....I prefer the look of Ferrari without the decals.....after all everyone knows it is a Ferrari already without the decals....and if they do not...well who cares anyway. I think it is just a personal preference with people.....Mine came without the decals and I have no plans to stick any on it either.

I guess being after market. . .no one has an idea as to the exact place they should go. . .I mean measurements from the edge, etc. Like where are they placed by the dealer on the newer ones that do come with the decals.. . .yes, I'm type A!

Thanks again to Bill for the prompt reply.

I found that all Ferrari badges are "self removable" after parking for more than 45 mins...and some passerby fancies a souvineer [sic]. the magnetic ones represent less paint damage upon such removal...I am trying to devise a "break away" nose and rear badges --maybe with cheap plastic back bolts to reduce any collateral damage -- people ignore car alarms in nyc and by then damage done.

If you get a higher quality magnetic shield, it looks more like a permanent thing and they don't tend to disappear as much. T. Rutlands (www.trutlands.com/./Parts.htm) has surprisingly good-looking magnetic shields at only $14.95 apiece.

I bought decals then I went to the office supply and bought a sheet of that magnetic material (refridgerator magnets) I made my own. Some days I feel like a nut somedays I don't.
