How much (within 10K) will an 06' F430 w/ following options: F1, Battery Charger, Daytona Seats, Scuderia Shields, Leather Upholstered Top, Rear Shelf & Door Sills, & BluTooth be worth in say 5 years with 30,000 - 35,000 miles on it. Say the car looks and drives new in 5 years.

I'm trying to figure out just what kind of hit one would take on a car like that if it has some miles on it. Would it bring 100K? 150K? Anyone want to take a stab at it?

    Dreaming,

That's far from a simple question. There is just to many economic factors to figure as well as what the 430 replacement will be. I'd say they will more than likely it will follow the pricing of the 360.

The 360 may give a clue. Many 360's sold for way over MSRP just like the 430. "Low" mileage (under 5,000 miles after 5-6 years) cars sell for around $50,000 less than original MSRP. If the 430 MSRP was $215,000 and we paid $265,000, and all thngs were equal to what has happened with the 360, I would guess around $150-160,000 (given the "market" price this represents a reduction of about $100,000). There is always the spider vs coupe cost differences, and color. Who knows what kind of hit you would take with a 35,000 mile (5-6 year old) Ferrari? Admittadly, I have no idea but found my old Ouji Board in the closet.Best

6 years ago my 360 coupe sold new for 185,000 on a 145,000 list.
I paid 121,0000 for it with 65oo miles on it. So maybe a 430 sells for 150k or so in 6 years with less than 10000 miles. 25 or 30k miles would take another 30k off the price. Rachet up all these numbers for a spider. A miley Ferrari is a tough sell unless it is cheap. Too many really low miles cars around. If it collected a story along the way it would be even cheaper. You would probably be better off to sell you car as it approaches 10k miles and buy another one with very low miles.

    Thanks for the posts guys.

The timing is very bad, but there is a 06' that has 5,000 miles on it with the options listed above and a few "extras" for $230K. I'm not sure what the MSRP would be on the car or what a good, ok, or great deal would be, but it sure is tempting. The big problem for me is if I buy a car I'm GOING to DRIVE IT. I would say 5,000 miles or so a year. The longest I have ever kept a car is 5 years (94' ZR-1).

Also, I try and look at the cost of ownership and see if it is something I can live with. If what some have said I would lose at least 100K on the car trying to sale it with that kind of miles. So if I get to enjoy it for 25,000 mile and lose 100K it will cost $4 a mile. I'm not worried about gas, insurance, and maintenance. Although maintenance could be a concern down the road.

I think if I could get away with "cost of ownership" to be around $1,000 -1,300 a month over the 5 years I could quit dreaming.

Why is it that miles kill the resale on a Ferrari? 6-year-old car with 30,000 mile is still very low miles.

The other funny thing about this is the guy that gets to buy at MSRP and drive it for 5,000 miles will make money and the guy that drives it for 25,000 miles will take in the rear!!!! Crazy!

MSRP on the car is probably around 198K or so now. Ferrari ownership is not cheap, just fun. You could probably do what you want to do with a porsche but not a Ferrari.

    Agreed

I would add. Some time ago I decided that buying a "home" or a car is not an "investment". Altought houses usually appreciate, where I live and how I live is more important that its appreciation. With rare exception, cars do not appreciate and more often than not a pretty big hit is taken when selling.

My rule #1 - If you cannot afford to enjoy it - don't buy it.

Real data: my '01 360 F1 Spider with 32000 miles which I traded for a 430 Spider was sold by my dealer early this year for around 130K

There are just too many ultra low mile cars around and people who can come up with say 130K for one with relatively high miles can almost always afford 150K for a very low mileage, like new car and that's the way they invariably go. Oddly enough, the higher mileage cars are probably better buys at the 5-6 year old point, especially for someone who plans to drive a lot.

I have been putting miles on my own 430 at about 4500/year rate (7900 so far). I was fortunate to pay MSRP and could still make a small profit, however, if I keep it 5-6 years with 25K on it, it will be a hit. If I consider that I could have gotten a 40K profit the day it arrived as opposed to a 40K hit in 5-6 years, it looks bad. But I don't think that on my death bed I will be regretting not taking the profit and running. BTW, 230K for the car you describe sounds a bit rich to me in the first place.
