I moved to a new area and there is a streach of road about 10 mi long straight no lights and no posted speed limit the only time i saw one was at the end of the road when i turned about 2 mi down there was a school and a sign for during school hours speed limit. My friend says that if there is no speed posted its 45 but i was doing 55 and everyone was passing me. Does anyone know the michigna law in regard to this i live in midland 48642

In Alaska the limit when no signs are posted is 55. Could be different in MI though.

On a rural highway (2 lanes) the speed limit is 55mph unless otherwise posted. Residential streets are 25mph unless posted.

look for 'prima facia' in your states vehical code. that's for unposted speed limits.
