speeding ticket..

Hi, I'm currently visiting LA from IL and I got a speeding ticket this morning on my way to Cars and Coffee (how ironic). Essentially I was doing 80 on a 55 road on 101. Anw, I'm not here to whine about it. Thing is, I had a Escort radar on my car at that point in time and it didn't go off at all. I was the only car in a 5-lane road at 6am in the morning so I was wondering could it be possible that the cop did not use his laser to detect my speed? Or did my radar just not function at the worst possible moment?

He probably just clocked you or estimated your speed visually. I find only about 1/2 the CHP's have there radar on.

Happened to me too, they "paced" you but of course they had to speed to catch you so go figure how they estimate the speed. All you can do is fight it and hope for a no show or take traffic school or just bite the bullet.

 

What's the ticket say? It should state radar used if he did. Either way your fooked these days.(kangaroo court) Go the ticket assasin.com route and drag it out Not sure if that works for an outa stater?

 

For the OP: "bumper pacing" is a common practice here. It is disproportionate to the use of lasers. He got you, you admit it, pay the man.

It is cyclical, every five years or so the state is so hard up for cash, you see a spike in traffic enforcement, and it is infact a money tree. But on the otherhand, awesome for the OP. If a cop writes even just 2 tickets an hour at roughly the average $271 per ticket, what is the value of taking him off the street for a few hours to go to traffic court to collect one ticket? You want to get pulled over by the guy aiming for "employee of the month".

If you decide not to fight it, then check to see if you can take traffic school. You still must pay the fine and the school costs but at least it doesn't go on the record that your insurance sees

 

are you sure the 101 is 55? thought it is 65? could be wrong...
