I have a 1988 Mondial CAB with ABS. When I bought the car the previous owner said to start the car I should dirt leave the ignition key in the first position and wait until the ABs light and other lights go off.

Is this the correct process to start the car or do I turn the key until it starts then release the key? Kind of strange to wait 10 seconds or more to start the car each time.

    Thank you fir your input.

He is correct. I put the key in and turn it to position 1, lights come on the dash,I buckle up and put the car in neutral (so 4-5 seconds), this supposedly "energizes" the circuitry on these old cars - then I simply turn the key the rest of the way to start the car. Think of it as something cool.......it's a starting procedure that is different than all the other cars out there. You don't have to do all this say if you just drove the car, starting again at a gas station or something...

If nothing else, it helps the fuel pressure build up for those couple of seconds that you wait.
