"However, while the former Ferrari mechanic admits to handing over the information to Coughlan, he says he never intended for it be used on McLaren's F1 cars. Rather he had hoped that himself and Coughlan could use it to team up and find other employment.

"I don't feel responsible in anyway at all for what happened at McLaren," he said in an interview to be broadcast on Sky Sports' World Motorsports Show tonight.

"My original idea was to make contact with somebody, not to benefit, but to see what I could do somewhere else with a group of people.

"Obviously, it got a bit sensitive and somebody used information more than I actually thought it was, or not more than it should have been.

"It should never have been used to that extreme."

Nigel has to be fairly intelligent to get where he was, and yet his thought process on this is rather difficult to believe. You start looking for a new position by stealing the intellectual property of your current employer and don't expect someone else to use it. Regardless of if it was used or not, he stole it and gave it to a competitor. His lawyers must be real happy with this interview.

What i find un-usual about this is that he never considered his future empoyer would look at him and say "can i trust this guy sitting in front of me showing his current employers engineering data"

Seems to be a bit nieve if you ask me, unless there was another agenda.

His criminal prosecution may be a drawn out affair!!

I hate this topic, but I can not help myself!

What a bunch of BS this is: "Coughlan could use it to team up and find other employment"
What does it matter which team he would have given that information to. He should be quite and hope he fades into the background. Any PR can not possibly help him in any way.

These remarks are beyond any form of reasoning, Stepney is an idiot or should I say "idiot savant". His legal counsel (if he has any) should shut him up.

Ahh, okay. So if he gets a new job and shows a great performance there due to his stolen data, he doesn't benefit. Oooookay...

He is an outright liar. How does he explain the 288+ text messages, over 35 phone calls, and the emails regarding the details and testing for Ferrari's weight balance, brake balance, and Ferrari's pit stop strategy (including the specific laps in which the Ferraris were going to stop) for races at the beginning of the year? How could providing to McLaren information regarding on which laps that the Ferraris were going to stop possibly have enhanced his "future" employment?
