Stewart…a documentary

A search did not turn up a thread about this….

Has anyone else seen this? It’s a two hour documentary produced in 2022 and very well done, in my opinion. Unfortunately ESNHD chose to show it in reduced screen so they could display a lot of wagering BS (see below). It’ll be shown again several times on ESPN2 so check your listings. It may be on YouTube, not sure.

It was shown on ESPN immediately following the Grand Prix. Pretty well done, and it said a lot about Stewart's dyslexia which went undiagnosed for most of his life but explains his difficulty in reading. It also emphasized the effects that the deaths of, particularly, Rindt and Cevert had on him.

 

I’m hoping the ESPN2 showing will be full screen. I’ve set it to record.

 

I saw it but was distracted (guests) for most of it. I want to see it again.

 

Recorded later and it is full screen. A good documentary.

 

I thought it was a great Doc

 

In my opinion, Jackie Stewart is the single most impressive/important living F1 driver of all time. I could go on for ages on why, but simply put you cannot find a better ambassador for F-1 than the wee Scott.

 

Will check out later. His documentary by Polanksi back in his heyday was classic. That was an incredibly dangerous time to be a racer....

 

His stature for such a long time means he has little competition, right? Who else is in contention?
(I haven't thought about it, but I'm sure you know the answer better than most).

 

He was and still is a positive for the sport. I liked the documentary. It is sad his wife is dying from dementia. I guess this doc did not have room for that issue but Stewart is open about bringing this issue to light where there is little treatment and lots of need for research.

 

I thought about that too. I think he probably just wanted to preserve her dignity. If he’d insisted on making the issue more prominent the producers probably would have accommodated him, so I’m assuming he didn’t want that.

 

I think from those who are alive... almost none. But arguments can be made for Mario Andretti, Prost, Mansell, Fittipaldi, Piquet.... Jacky Ickx... the field is getting smaller. Other than Andretti, Stewart is about the last one who has driven multi-formulas in one year. F-1, F2, Indy, CanAm, Sports cars, Saloon cars etc... all at the same time. Andretti and Ickx are the only other World Champions alive to have done so... I also mean in the same season and Winning races. Many people forget that Stewart almost won Indy in his first try... and had a mechanical failure. But his work on safety beyond all else sets him apart.

AJ Foyt and Roger Penske should also be mentioned as some who have been actively immersed in motor sport as participants for a lifetime, and then some.

 

I agree, but neither have contributed as much as Stewart on and off the track. Penske - has raced across the world, but has primarily been USA focused. Foyt.... won Lemans.... otherwise its Indy mostly. But he did race a multitude of cars in his day.

 

Not a very good film, in my opinion, and with lousy sound quality. They should use subtitles so you can understand what Jackie is saying. The film had no narrative flow or point of view. Wasted time.
