Who is up for meeting on Sunday for a drive and maybe some eats. I have reached out to Skip and Rocketboy and they seem eager to get together. Rocketboy had suggested Olivetti's in Des Plaines as potential meeting place. I believe Frank is the food critic so maybe he has an opinion of this place? What do you guys think? Thanks.. Vince
That sounds great! Will have to see about something that my Daughter has going on Sunday, first, and get back to you.... And,a possible idea for a Drive could be up to the Volo Auto Museum....just drive up Milwaukee Av.,then.....
Frank is DEFINITELY the food critic, but you'd never know it by looking at him. Ya, Tony at Olivetti's wants us there, but I' ve got this family reunion thing going on this weekend.
Well,I will let you know later or first thing,AM. I really do want to go,but, need to find a ride for my Daughter. BTW....Forget Volo Auto Museum this weekend. It's the "Tucker" automobile day. But.......NEXT Weekend,George Barris, the King of Customizing is gonna be there...He designed the Batmobile.Munsters Cars,Rat Fink...... Now THAT would be cool!!!!
As long as the weather holds up, I will meet Vince at say, 11:30? Where at doesn't really matter. It was a lot of fun going on drives last year and since we have been blessed with good weather this year, I hope to share in the same open and fun times set up by the great FOC people. I guess I will call you round 10:30 ok Vince? As for Volo, wow, I would go to either. But if I were able to meet Barris, so much the better. One of his Batmobiles, ( I think there were 7, ) is in the near north burbs. Perhaps I can get his autograph or have him sign a car for me. Regardless, I look forward to all the meets. RocketBoy
Yeah,I know...the Drives have kind of Fizzled.... I was just making a suggestion about Volo. Maybe next Weekend... Just going for a nice Drive would be fine as far as I am concerned. Where are you meeting, tommorrow? Also,I am trying to get ahold of my Buddy with the Italian Restaraunt,"Ciao Bella" opening up in Lombard right on Roosevelt Rd.,(RT 38) soon. ( It's about 2 miles WEST of RT.83. Or,maybe 3 Miles EAST of I-355. Or,straight off the Eisenhower/I-88. Easy to get to.) I want to see if he'd like to have some Itaian Cars for the Grand Opening. If anyone is interested, let me know. Should be fun. I can't make too many plans right now. Monday I will find out what day I am having Surgery on my Bad Leg. (From Motorcycle vs. Bus accident 23 years ago.... ) I should be in the Hospital 3-5 Days. And,hopefully, mobile right away afterwards. I am getting MORE Steel and Screws in me...now that is 5 places in me old rotten bod with Metal in it...6 if I count the Vascectomy.... I mean,I've always been "Into" Metal...Heavy Metal...But,never thought I'd end up with so much Metal "Into" Me....
Hey Vince, I'd go with you, but I am going to the Corvette show on North Ave. in St. Charles in the morning. So if you don't find anybody else for a drive, come by the show. We'll also probably be back at the Rte. 66 dragstrip this week (I did beat my time you saw), and at the Autobahn on July 3rd, with the addition of the Murci and Ford GT, then of course I'll be at the Italian car show in Itasca on the 10th.
I went to Olivetti's Sunday despite not hearing from Vince or seeing a promising post from Frank. No matter, as I pulled in the place didn't look too active and for a good reason. Someone walking into the restaurant stopped in his tracks and commented on my ride. I thanked him and asked if he worked there, he said yes but also happened to be the owner, Tony. Despite being closed on Sundays he invited me in and offered to serve Vince and/or Frank if they showed up. He talked with a lot of pride about his place and all the fun hopes he has for it and some of the Ferrari people he knew. I stuck around for about 35 minutes but Tony was such a kind host it would be just as fun to have his company. The place has always had a good reputation for food but meeting the people in charge makes it even more appealing. Regardless of a Ferrari meet there or not, I am very tempted to go there just for dinner with the fiancee. RocketBoy PS: Vince, thanks for the call and I hope your personal matters turn out well soon. Frank, this Tony guy can definitely give you a run for your money when it comes to food and conversation, and I think your aces in both.
Sean, Thanks for the invite I will see what I can do. I have my father in the hospital and he is not doing well. For obvious reasons that will have a an impact on my free time. Glad to hear that you did well at Rt. 66 and I hope to hook up with you soon. Rocket..sorry I was unable to meet up with you because it sounds like Olivetti's is a nice place. The wife can always use a night out and maybe this place fits the bill. It sounds like Tony would love to us and our F-cars there! Thanks for your input on all of the cruise locations. I guess some are better than others so that is always good to know.
I first met Tony a few years ago at a stoplight. I was in my Ferrari(I don't remember which one) and Tony yelled over to me, "Love your car" and he told me he owned Olivetti. He invited me to his restaurant. Next time I ran into Tony was last year. Dave B. had just gotten his Boxer, and we ended up in the parking lot next to Olivetti. His car wouldn't start and Tony and his crew came walking by. We asked them to give us a push, which they graciously did. Tony again invited us and the Ferrari boys to his restaurant, and bistro next door, and he offered us 'preferred parking'! We really should try to set up an event with Tony at Olivetti; he wants us bad!
I sowwy..... I didn't see a post back as to where, when and if.... (I don't know where Olivetti's is.) But,as it turned out,I had to drive Ms. Daughter to her event. Then, wait a few hours and pick Her up. So,I couldn't go anyhoo. I have Postponed my Leg Surgery until the end of Summer. I've gone this long as it is....Too much going on in July here. Plus,I am taking the Kids to Arizona and California for a couple of Weeks sometime this Summer.
