Guys, I have found several cars with the high mirrors on BOTH sides. Was this original from the factory or is it an aftermarket solution? Image Unavailable, Please Login
As mentioned on Edvars website it is very unlikely that the double high mirrors came that way from the factory. I have to say I have never seen TRs with double high mirrors on photos while being built at the factory. I think you can be very sure the aren't original. Kind of odd looking too... The factory switched to double lower mirrors around the second half of 1986. IMO the nicest TR is a double low mirror, single nut car. Have you located a car yet? Good luck with the search.
passenger side mirror is self add-on. Looks funny if mirrors are on high position both sides...imo. Most move mirrors down to the normal position which make the single high mounted mirror rare...
Actually, ferrari did make the TR with double high mirror in 86/87. these were european cars. The N.American ones were single, and in 88 it came down with 2. The same 2 mirror lowered came in Europe in 88 as well, look into that car, its a euro car for sure. Some Euro markets were different than others. or it may have been sent to the far east.
Thanks, Yes I am currently looking at a very nice example with a single mirror (beautiful). I don't like the looks of the high double mirror. It looks a bit odd. I thought that it was aftermarket. But as I understand now it was factory delivered.
The '85 I drove (US Model) had a right side mirror. My understanding was that it was a RHD mirror that was added on. In any case, it was useless, as I couldn't even see it from the driver's seat. It sits too far forward and is blocked by the A-pillar. Might be of some use for backing up, but not for driving.
