Have a question for you Denverites. I got a notice in the mail yesterday from a E-470 toll authority for 80.00. This a bill/notice it looks like for a toll road use. I don't live in Denver so not familiar with this 470 toll road. I was over there and back one Saturday in July. Missed my exit and continued on 470 for a while and turned around and went back to my exit. No one in my lanes stopped for this toll and its obvious I didn't either. I thought at the time it wasn't operational. No signs that I remember.
My question is 80.00 for a toll use and this is the first I have heard of it several months later. Can anyone shed some light.

July 3 or 4 was the last day that toll booths were manned. BUT the toll road was ALWAYS operational and never free. Cameras take a picture of the license plate when you pass a toll booth. $80 seems high. I believe round trip from one end and back is $21. How many times were you on the 470 toll road?

Could be a fine. I'd call them to sort it out.

I went to Cars and Coffee at Park Meadows last summer. The group leader then asked us all if we'd like to proceed to a car show at Southlands Mall.

We took the toll road. I had exressed concern about the toll booth operators accepting a credit card, as I had no cash with me. The organizer explained that "you can just sail through; they'll send you a bill in the mail."

In the meantime, I moved. In September, I received a fine/toll collection notice in the mail: $78 if I paid after a certain date; only $8 if I paid the toll only before then.

So I paid the $8 and figured that was the end of it.

Mid-October, I received not one, but THREE more fine notices, all for about $70. No option of paying just the toll online this time, these were FINES. The notices also stated that if I were to call, the only thing the negotiator would be willing to listen to would be a claim that it wasn't my car. (I didn't have a leg to stand on there; it WAS my car, quite clear in all the photos.) The notice stated that if I was the lawful owner of this vehicle, there would be no possibility of having the fine reduced.

So I paid the fines - more than $210 - and chalked it up as a learning experience:

IN FUTURE, I'LL STAY THE HE11 OFF OF E470!!! I advise you to do the same.

This is what I got also, no prior notice or bill just this fine notice. Sounds like extortion to me. The car has Montana plates on it so I guess they can go MT and get me there.

I got a bill for a toll that I never went through. I checked the date and time it said I went through and I was at work. I called them, gave them my plate number, and right off the bat she said "sorry that was an error" I will send you confirmation that the toll fee was waived. I have no idea how she knew it was an error, I just said "ok, thanks"

80.00 is a fine. When we first move to the area via mistake racked up 360.00 in fines on 470. Just awful and almost impossible to get out of it with any logical discussion. That's Co.

I drive through the toll maybe two or three times a month. I pay the $4 or so it costs me each time via billpay online. I've even been a week late and no ill effect.

If you drive through the toll, and don't receive a bill within a month, you should call the toll authority and ask. Being proactive would most likely save you $80.

Two other things to note: the bill will get sent to the address your license plates are registered to. Unless you're out of state. My understanding is out of state plates won't get tolled.

Just give them a call. They've always been easy to work with in my experience. They will usually waive the fines if you pay the tolls.

I don't know why they mail out so many fine notices, though.
