Sad to say that Tom Wheatcroft, owner of Donington Park, has died at the age of 87.

A lifelong enthusiast, he bought Donington in the early '70s as a home for his collection of racing cars which grew to be the biggest collection of F1 and single-seaters in the world, and rebuilt the circuit privately, bringing racing back in 1977 and hosting an F1 Grand Prix in 1993.

He also supported young drivers in F3, F2 and F1, notably Roger Williamson and Derek Bell.

He was a jolly, enthusiastic, and wise man who gave more to 4- and 2-wheeled smotorsport in the UK than almost anyone.

    RIP, Tom.

Very sad, and tragic what has happened to his beloved Donington.

Sad to hear. I think Barry visited his famous collection a few years ago. RIP Mr. Wheatcroft.

His comittment to resurrect Donington post war and then later to bring the GP there in 1993 was extraordinary, as is his museum truly one of the most interesting I have seen.

He can reminisce up in racers paradise with his fomer charger Roger Williamson and so many others....

    RIP
