I will try to be sensitive when posting Video of Crashes. I know some race car drivers dont like to see them. I found this one to be facinating. Mods feel free to move this if there is already a track crash thread. I couldnt find one. JJ

I was surprised to see how little contact it took to get this car airborn.

I dont think the contact was so minimal... they even clashed the tires making them gain grip against the other and tipping that side...

...in that precise moment is when you have more side G´s building up and weight is completely gone into the left of the car, left tires are taking the highest load while the right tires have grip but the amount of load is minimal compared to left side...balance is very delicate in that precise moment...(that´s why JP Montoya always attacked front runners in that precise moment and ended passing them or putting them into the grass), all in all, if you have raced in a circuit and you take that turn like that, you know the outerside car is going to go...sometimes they hang on the limit, most times they just fly away...dirty driving IMO, I hate that move...If you are so good and fast and gifted, why dont you pass him clean and sweet without ruinning his race?

...well ,all that, and having the engine in the back...

on the other hand marshalls were incredibly lucky!

I once added up the number of people I have seen killed in racing accidents. It is 16.

I really don't care to watch videos of accidents.

I with you on that as well. I also dont like watching the Accidents. I only posted it because of the discussion of Dirty racing and Keeping your line. I have a buddy that drives with that style of "If you dont keep your line I will run you off the road." and I think this accident is a good example of what not to do. Its just very hard to see if the guy in front is keeping his "Line" or not. JJ

I watch every crash I can. I race and watching crashes helps remind me that my hobby is dangerous. I learn a bit more about when a pass is perhaps more risky. I examine every crumppled wreck I can to see how cars deform so that I make the best compromises in my safety system design and construction. There is more to safety that just welding a rollcage in. Safety starts with awareness and appreciation of calculated risks.
