okay, i had loosened the adjusting nut on the shift rod and ofcourse the shifter fell out of sink with the gears. 20mins of fiddling and i got it back in, or so i thought.

i can get all the gears, but 1st can only be selected after selecting reverse (i can physically put it into 1st but nothing engages). now i relize i can drain the oil and remove the pan, but i would like to avoid that if possible. can it be re-adjusted with out dropping the pan or am i SOL? and if it isn't related to the adjustment, WTH? it's the oddest thing i've ever come accross.

Thank God! I thought this was going to be a cross-gender thread.

most likely the shift forks came loose and were re-adjusted. can't comment on the cost of doing that.
in my case it was simply not lined up right, no need to drop the pan.

    Dumb question.?
Did you mark the position of the split shifter rod , , prior to loosening the nut..?
