I was looking at a ratty one the other day for about $9k, pretty but very small and I wouldn't like to be in an accident, you're always looking directly at headlight level

 

If it isn't leaking, it's empty - a mate had one, and always left 3 puddles of oil on the driveway. Mind you, that was back in the early eighties, when they were just an old 1100cc banger student car. I wouldn't have thought they were your schtick...

OK, I get it. I forgot who was posting...

 

I rebuilt a 1971 Spitfire I found in a field with a tree growing through it. Paid $300 and had to chop down the tree to haul it out. It's a very simple car with (at the time) inexpensive parts. I painted it a Porsche red. I have to say that in all the sports cars I've owned, the Spitfire got the most attention from the ladies. Top speed was about 65mph and it was a dangerous car with unpredictable handling at that speed. The little 1300cc engine was tough and robust and the minimum electrical system, after I replaced EVERYTHING was reliable, unlike most British cars. Mine never leaked anything. It was tight.

The coolest thing about the car is when the hood is open, the entire engine compartment is accessible. I could sit on a tire and work on the engine very comfortably. I really liked that about the car.

I drove it as a daily driver for three years and sold it to an attractive young woman who paid asking price without a test drive.

Triumph in fact built some great cars prewar .

The TR4 was a car to own with a history in motorsport including factory team of 3 at the Sebring 12 hour and a rally program of 2 years with 4 factory cars including this one for sale $526,000aus .

Rallies they competed in included the French Alpine,RAC,Tulip rally, and Liege rally.

Perfect for GAD run .. I'd own one in factory rally specs.
