Any thoughts on the best underwater camera for casual use. One that takes great pictures....with ease of use.

Also, does it make more sense just to purchase the Go Pro Hero camera / video set up??

Go pro is not a bad way to go for video, but might be limited for stills. Gizmodo had an eval of some underwater cameras recently. Do a search on that site, then research them in more detail on dpreview.

Read the thread title... immediately thought GoPro but I'll admit that I haven't tested any others.

i used our GoPro while in Grand Cayman last month. I love the camera. I got some incredible footage swimming with dolphins, swimming with the stingrays, waveruning, ocean kayaking and parasailing. it is easy to set up, has multiple harnesses (chest and head) and easy to download.

That's great! Do you have it hosted online anywhere? Would love to see that.

I haven't yet, been to busy but it is on my list of things to do. I will post a link once it is done so you can check it out.

To the other poster who asked about depth limitations. I am not sure off hand. I never took mine deeper than six or so feet.

Check out scubaboard.com they have a great photography section. You'll find far more information about underwater cameras than you ever wanted to know.

Heavily look at the Sony GW-77. It just came out & is pretty stellar for $700

I think olympus has a model called stylus touch that is kinda cheap and good for basic underwater stuff - worth checking out.
